Van Morrison slams internet

Recommended Posts

vanmorrison.jpgVan Morrison has launched a scathing attack on the internet, insisting it is responsible for the dumbing down of society and modern culture.

The Gloria hitmaker is convinced the web has caused more problems than it has solved, and insists Earth would be a better place without it.

He says: "Now, because of the internet, everyone's suddenly a big shot. I'm talking about people who think that because they've looked up a website, they know everything.

"You used to have to study things but now you can just find it on the internet, and everybody feels very important because they have access to this stuff.

"It was a different culture when I was young. Quality, respect - they seem to have vanished."

People use to blame TV  I dont think you can blame the internet over changing values, though. Technology is speeding things up information-wise; but overpopulation is the culprit, if there is a finger to point

Van Morrison is easily one of my top 5 all-time favorite musicians. That being said, he is also a cantankerous old bastard....

Probably was an AOL user - no wonder he's angry

He's correct but who gives a shit

correct about what? That all info is available for free to everyone? His music might be good but other than that, he is useless. Using your fame to make your opinion heard is fine but using your fame to make crap come out of you mouth be heard is pathetic

Mr Van Morrison, thanks for the memories but now, please just disappear

What Morrison said doesn't make much sense.

The Internet itself has created a fluid medium to exchange information on a grand scale (planet wide)

What people DO with the technology is another matter.

I know one thing though, I wouldn't have been able to obtain even 5% of the information I have obtained without the Internet.

Come on. It’s like a giant, interactive library (as well as an avenue for many other things too).

Morrison is probably upset because his Windows PC crashed while he was checking his AOL e-mail while instant messaging (with smileys and "lol"s I might add).

Talk to him in a few days and he'll be singing a different tune (if he's still capable of doing that).

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
