Oh this was hysterical! This kid is bright enough to be attending Columbia, but stupid enough to admit online that he "knew" what he was doing was illegal....Now he wants people to bail him out with the pitiful story lamenting college tuition. Sounds to me like this kid needs to accept the consequences of his actions and accept responsibility for his choices!!! One possible solution to raising the money for the fine...get a JOB!!!

The problem is that the industry is going after their fans and consumers instead of joining the technological age we live in. The kid has a sense of humor - that's more than I can say for the RIAA, whose tactics are disgusting.

Well, I admit I don't totally agree with how RIAA is handling the matter, but.... You know, out of respect for Joe, I'm going to keep my opinion to myself!!!! I have a few close friends who are recording artists, and I'm afraid I'm not the most impartial person. I will agree with you on one point - RIAA has to get with the program or lose!!

No need to be shy here.--all opinions are welcome. And fyi, I work in entertainment industry--I rep some folks and create stuff myself--some of these people have different views than I do.

One of the things I like best about this site...everyone is open minded and can discuss various points of view. I too worked for many years in the Industry....was very active with the American Federation of Musicians, owned American Entertainment Consultants, and was hired as a consultant by the Recording Industries Music Performance Trust Funds. Loved my work...but am now out of it for the time being! Nice chatting with someone else in the Industry!!!

I think the web opens up alot of opportunities to do creative stuff online - maybe you can use your skills that way in a new environment...

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
