How to get a job in management?

Rivet

Recommended Posts

I used to be really interested in becoming a music technician, but recently discovered I lacked the motivation to do what they do.

Then I thought to myself, I seem to be pretty good at predicting artists' careers, and thinking up new and better ways to get them the recognition they need. Maybe I'd be good in management?

Problem is, I'm not very educated as to what occupations within the music industry or within a record label actually ask the person to do.

Can anyone help me out?

A&R?

Artist and Repertoire." The A & R staff would select artists to record music. These guys are universally young [about the same age as the bands being wooed], and nowadays they always have some obvious underground rock credibility flag they can wave. (From Google)

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
