Gore TV Network to Launch in August, Google Tie-In

By Jeremy Pelofsky

SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - Former U.S. Vice President Al Gore on Monday unveiled his new television network, "Current," which aims to attract younger viewers with short videos and a tie-in with the popular Google Inc. search engine.

The network plans to debut on Aug. 1 and be available to 19 million subscription television viewers, Gore said at a news conference at the cable industry's annual convention. Gore led an investment group that last May bought the network from Vivendi Universal for an undisclosed sum.

I wonder if they will have enuff material for a network. Everyone may have access to a digital camera, but Im not convinced there is enuff material out there to run a network of shorts.... I guess if you added music & sports clips, etc, it could work--but that's where the web is going. Seems like an odd thing to start. Any thoughts out there?

Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
