Sloncek announces eXeem

Sloncek, founder of the late SuprNova.org, has announced that eXeem will soon be available to the public. The announcement was made today on NovaStream radio, the semi-official radio station of SuprNova.

The software, touted as "decentralised BitTorrent," has been beta-tested by some 5000 members of the former SuprNova forums during the second half of 2004.

In an attempt to help keep the benefits of a centralised system, the software uses a rating and comment system to help users evade fake files. The software will also be compatible with eDonkey style magnet links.

The adware bundled software will be available for download some time in the next few weeks. It will initially be released as a public beta. Much of the adware will be optional, but many of the components will not. Cydoor, for example, will be forced onto all users. Spyware has not been ruled out.

eXeem is closed source and platform specific. Sloncek, real name Andrej Preston, has said that there will only be a Windows based version during his radio interview.

Being decentralised, closed source and filled with adware makes eXeem more reminisant of Kazaa than SuprNova. File sharers will not be impressed.

The software will be available from www.exeem.com, which was formerly registered under Sloncek's name and Slovenian address, but is now registered to "Swarm Systems Inc." Swarm Systems is based on the former British colony islands of Saint Kitts and Nevis, Carribean.

Sloncek explained in his interview that an "anonymous company" owns and is developing the software, but he will carry on as the face of eXeem.

No site is available at exeem.com as of yet.

Please watch Slyck, which will bring the latest news as it comes in.

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
