  2. The Smoking Gun Tape (With Transcripts) that led to Nixon's resignation which mentions Hunt; Haldeman, in his book, says he believes that Nixon was obliquely referring to the JFK Assassination The Smoking Gun Nixon: Of course, this is a, this is a Hunt, you will-that will uncover a lot of things. You open that scab there's a hell of a lot of things and that we just feel that it would be very detrimental to have this thing go any further. This involves these Cubans, Hunt, and a lot of hanky-panky that we have nothing to do with ourselves. Well what the hell, did Mitchell know about this thing to any much of a degree? Nixon: When you get in these people when you...get these people in, say: "Look, the problem is that this will open the whole, the whole Bay of Pigs thing, and the President just feels that" ah, without going into the details... don't, don't lie to them to the extent to say there is no involvement, but just say this is sort of a comedy of errors, bizarre, without getting into it, "the President believes that it is going to open the whole Bay of Pigs thing up again. And, ah because these people are plugging for, for keeps and that they should call the FBI in and say that we wish for the country, don't go any further into this case", period!
  3. Back on my JFK Assassiniation kick--ever notice how some of the same principals mentioned in the Bay of Pigs, also show up in the JFK assassination rumors--and in Watergate and Iran Contra? Hunt's name always comes up the first 3. I think this website comes closest to solving what went down in 1963. I've been reading it all night - it includes a video with a guy, Fines, who claims to have been one of the shooters
  4. MIAMI - E. Howard Hunt, who helped organize the Watergate break-in, leading to the greatest scandal in American political history and the downfall of Richard Nixon's presidency, died Tuesday. He was 88. Hunt died at a Miami hospital after a lengthy bout with pneumonia, according to his son Austin Hunt. The elder Hunt was many things: World War II soldier, CIA officer, organizer of both a Guatemalan coup and the botched Bay of Pigs invasion, and author of more than 80 books, many from the spy-tale genre. 6. NEW YORK - Mandy Moore has a lot going for her, including a starring role opposite Diane Keaton in the upcoming comedy "Because I Said So." Even so, she says she's grappled with depression. ..."I feel bad that people wasted their money on such trite, blah pop music," says Moore about her earlier music. Moore has been looking inward a lot of late. "I've been going through this really crazy time in my life — it's what I imagine people fresh out of college go through," she says. "I'm asking myself life-altering questions, like `Who am I? Where do I fit in this world? What am I doing, what do I want to do? Am I living to my full potential?'" Read More

  9. BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. - The musical "Dreamgirls" led Academy Awards contenders Tuesday with eight nominations, but surprisingly was shut out for best picture, positioning the ensemble drama "Babel" or the mob saga "The Departed" as potential front-runners. "Babel" was close behind with seven nominations, including best picture and acting honors for two newcomers to U.S. audiences, Adriana Barraza and Rinko Kikuchi. "The Departed" had five nominations, among them best picture, a directing slot for Martin Scorsese and a supporting-actor honor for Mark Wahlberg. Read More
  10. Attorney Theodore Wells, in the opening statements of I. Lewis Libby's perjury trial, said Libby went to Cheney in 2003 and complained that the White House was subtly blaming him for leaking Valerie Plame's identity to columnist Robert Novak. "They're trying to set me up. They want me to be the sacrificial lamb," Wells said, recalling the conversation between Libby and Cheney. "I will not be sacrificed so Karl Rove can be protected." Source **** WASHINGTON - Special Prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald used his opening statement in the CIA leak trial Tuesday to allege that Vice President Dick Cheney's chief of staff lied and destroyed a note showing Cheney's early involvement. Fitzgerald said Cheney told his chief of staff, “Scooter” Libby, in 2003 that Wilson’s wife worked for the CIA and Libby spread that information to reporters. When that information got out, it triggered a federal investigation. “But when the FBI and grand jury asked about what the defendant did,” Fitzgerald said, “he made up a story.” Source
  11. CANNES, France, Jan. 22 — As even digital music revenue growth falters because of rampant file-sharing by consumers, the major record labels are moving closer to releasing music on the Internet with no copying restrictions — a step they once vowed never to take. Executives of several technology companies meeting here at Midem, the annual global trade fair for the music industry, said over the weekend that at least one of the four major record companies could move toward the sale of unrestricted digital files in the MP3 format within months. 18. The NY Times chimes in on the controversy: Even as industry-financed antipiracy squads hunt for unauthorized recordings, senior executives at the major record labels privately say that they have courted — and often paid — top D.J.’s to create and distribute mixtapes featuring the labels’ rappers as part of efforts to generate buzz. “It might not necessarily have the label’s logo on it, but they’re the ones cutting the checks for the recording and production” of many mixtapes, said Ian Steaman, a longtime talent and marketing executive who writes for the hip-hop Web site Different Kitchen. “It’s just kind of understood you need that channel of exposure for any kind of real, credible artist. I don’t think this industry’s ready to deal with that conversation.” The raid also exposes a schism that is taking shape as the industry tries to stanch a slide in album sales, for which many blame piracy. On one side, many label executives and officials at the Recording Industry Association of America, which represents the major music companies, say the mixtape is contributing to the problem. They argue that sales are ultimately undermined when the mixtape leaps from promotional giveaway item to replacement for an artist’s official label-distributed album. Read More
  19. XM Satellite Radio and P2P networking might as well be on opposite sides of the technological spectrum, but their frequent litigation with the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) makes for a good Saturday night date ice breaker. Claiming that XM Satellite Radio’s new "XM+MP3" service disaggregates recordings and permits the creation of music libraries in a similar fashion to iTunes, the music industry filed a copyright violation complaint in May of 2006. The music industry contends that XM’s license doesn’t permit the service to act like an online music store. The “XM+MP3” service allows the consumer to download perfect, digital copies of satellite transmitted songs and rearrange the play list in any fashion desired. The RIAA has repeatedly stated they are not necessary against sound recording or time-shifting; however they are against reorganizing recordings per genre or artist. XM defended its position, stating its service is protected by the Audio Home Recording Act. The Audio Home Recording Act (AHRA), passed in 1992, allows for private, non-commercial copying of digital and/or analog recording with a capable device. Read more at Slyck.com
