  2. I wonder how they found out about it in the first place--and how they could prove it
  3. you see some of this in the streets of la between the various gangs--ethnic wars that make no sense. we need to help create an environment of opportunity where people can sustain and get ahead... then the rest of the crap would diminish inequality is not just a problem in Iraq or the Third World--it's happening right here in the USA; check out Senator Webb's recent comments on Bush's State of the Union address
  4. people in my country voted for the jerk--whether he actually won is too be debated. they were not MY people--my people have worked relentlessly (and continue to) to get rid of him and his cronies who have caused all this damage
  5. A war whis is based on idiotic idealogies - your politics, your religion is worse than mine, so you must die. I'm ashamed to be on the same planet as these jerks
  6. I read that. The legislators who wrote that law should all go to jail
  7. Absolutely. This shouldnt surprise you as you know I have been against the war from the very beginning. My point was 'what's the point in killing innocent people and animals?' Who were the target? There were no soldiers. No particular religious or political enemies. Just senseless killing. It's disgusting.
  8. The killing is senseless no matter who or how its done
  9. Our intrusion definitely stirred things up. But there is still no excuse for these kind of senseless actions.
  10. Gizmodo reports that Starbucks is installing music downloading stations at its shops and it's expected the process will be completed some time this year. Read the full story HERE
  11. BAGHDAD, Iraq - A bomb hidden in a box holding pigeons tore through a crowded pet and livestock market Friday, killing at least 14 people and wounding dozens, police said, in a blast that left the carcasses of dead birds, dogs and other animals scattered on the blood-soaked ground. The attack struck a day after Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki insisted there will be "no safe place in Iraq for terrorists," and a suicide car bombing in the Shiite neighborhood of Karradah. Police raised the casualty toll in that attack to 30 killed and 61 wounded. Source Everyday I pick up the papers or scan the web, I come across more senseless killing. What can these terrorists expect to gain by these actions? It's despicable and they're despicable. And you can't blame this kind of continued insanity on an American presence.
  12. I'm so sorry... :( I grabbed a photo of the BK Pet thread in their honor
  13. The 79th annual Academy Awards nominations have been announced. Composer Ennio Morricone is receiving an honorary award. The man has composed 528 movie soundtracks. Of those 528, he's been nominated 5 times for Malena, Bugsy, The Untouchables, The Mission and Days of Heaven. He never won, so it's nice to see him get something. Mr. Morricone's other credits include a string arrangement contribution to Morrissey's newest album Ringleader of the Tormenters, and it's rumored that Morrissey might get up and sing something at 78-year old Ennio's upcoming North American debut - at Radio City Music Hall....not that Ennio needs Morrissey to make the night any more special - he'll already be joined by a 200 member orchestra and choir. 14. Had dinner with some outoftown guests from Connecticut this evening--went to a Japanese restaurant on Beverly--quite good. I'd like to be in some far away place for the weekend like the little getaway below. But alas, I'm stuck in LA for the weekend. Planning on seeing a movie with a friend...and that's all I can think of at this late hour. Whataboutyou?
  15. must be a WINDOWS app lol
  16. Good stuff. Hasn't recorded for about five years - would love to see what she does next. Here is another video - The Sweetest Taboo
  17. This freeform concert featuring guitar virtuoso John McLaughlin on acoustic guitar and L. Shanka on violin was an attempt to fuse Western and Indian Music. It also included Zakir Hussain (on tabla), and R. Raghavan (on the Mridangam) and T. H. Vinayakaram (on Ghatam) on percussion. Pretty amazing stuff for a jam and still quite listenable. At the time of the recording, Mclaughlin was probably the greatest guitar player in the world.
  18. Cruising around Youtube, one always finds pleasant surprises. Here Miles performs the song Tutu off of one of my favorite albums of his, Amandla (1989). Amandla was underrated by the critics, due to the Mile's experimentation with fusion and electronica, the very reason I love this piece. Further in the thread, check out "So What", which Miles performed along with John Coltrane in 1958--jazz doesn't get any better than this. Enjoy.
  19. Jon Stewart interviews former White House Press Secretary Scott McClelland on the Libby trial - watch it here :)
  20. Close - but I think this one is Red's real car
  21. Vice President Cheney's former public affairs director testified this morning that I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby directed her to ask the CIA which journalists were working on stories about a CIA-sponsored trip to Africa, then personally telephoned at least one of them in an attempt to influence the broadcast. Cathie Martin's testimony, on the third morning of Libby's perjury trial, again made clear that Libby was aggressively involved in the effort to gather information about former ambassador Joseph C. Wilson IV, who went to the African nation of Niger at the CIA's request to determine whether Iraq was seeking nuclear material there. Wilson later publicly accused the administration of trying to justify the Iraq invasion by twisting his conclusions that Iraq had not tried to buy uranium from Niger. Martin's testimony also showed how deeply Cheney himself was enmeshed in the effort in the early summer of 2003 to deflect blame from his office about Wilson's trip --and to discredit Wilson.
