  10. Here are five videos/with the lyrics from the legendary LA band, The Doors. Jim Morrison and Ray Manzarek are fellow alumni of the UCLA Film School, and I once brought Ray back to play at a 25th Anniversary celebration. Here is a little background on the formation of the band from Wikipedia as a prologue to the short music video festival which follows: "The origins of The Doors lay in a chance meeting between acquaintances and UCLA film school students Jim Morrison and Ray Manzarek on Venice Beach, California in July 1965. Morrison told Manzarek he had been writing songs and, at Manzarek's encouragement, sang "Moonlight Drive." Impressed by Morrison's lyrics, Manzarek immediately suggested they form a band. Vox-Organ-player Ray Manzarek was already in a band called Rick And The Ravens with his brother Rick Manzarek, while Robby Krieger and John Densmore were playing with The Psychedelic Rangers and knew Manzarek from yoga and meditation classes they were both taking. In August Densmore joined the group and, along with members of the Ravens and an unidentified female bass player, recorded a six-song demo on September 2. ...That month the group recruited guitarist Robby Krieger and the final lineup—Morrison, Manzarek, Krieger and Densmore—was complete. The band took their name from the title of a book by Aldous Huxley, The Doors of Perception, which was in turn borrowed from a line in The Marriage of Heaven and Hell, a poem by the 18th century artist and poet William Blake: "If the doors of perception were cleansed, every thing would appear to man as it is: infinite." Paul Rothchild, who I also knew, should be credited as being the fifth door - he produced all their albums. Touch Me From the CD The Soft Parade Yeah! Come on, come on, come on, come on Now touch me, baby Can't you see that I am not afraid? What was that promise that you made? Why won't you tell me what she said? What was that promise that you made? Now, I'm gonna love you Till the heavens stop the rain I'm gonna love you Till the stars fall from the sky for you and I Come on, come on, come on, come on Now touch me, baby Can't you see that I am not afraid? What was that promise that you made? Why won't you tell me what she said? What was that promise that you made? I'm gonna love you Till the heavens stop the rain I'm gonna love you Till the stars fall from the sky for you and I I'm gonna love you Till the heavens stop the rain I'm gonna love you Till the stars fall from the sky for you and I Stronger than dirt Source: Seek Lyrics

  14. I'd prefer to own an island somewhere and let the mainlanders have at it
  15. I heard they were sheepish
  16. They kinda disappeared after making a big splash. After watching all the videos from this era, I'm convinced that most of the videomakers didn't have a clue as to what the hell they are doing in the 80s--there is practially no thematic or visual continuity, for the most part-just a lot of rapid cuts and manipulation of film speeds and random shots of the bands thrown. There are some notable exceptions, or course, and the set designs were usually kinda interesting...but damn...if it weren't for those songs, most celluloid shot then would be worthless. I still like Dance Hall Days...particularly the simple rhythm guitar and sax solo. Nice song - it's too bad this band didn't continue - it would be interesting to see what they would do today

  21. According to Wikipedia: "The band's name is derived from the Primal therapy treatment of the same name developed by Arthur Janov, which was made famous after John Lennon became Janov's patient. While undergoing primal therapy, a patient is encouraged to "re-experience" his early, dramatic emotional states (even perinatal ones), including screaming like an infant, hence the expression "tears for fears". Orzabal tried primal therapy in the early 1980s, although Smith never did, and neither returned to the treatment after that time. In a 2004 interview with VH1 UK, Orzabal and Smith said that when they finally met Janov in the mid-80s, they were disillusioned to find that he had become quite "Hollywood" and wanted the band to write a musical about primal therapy." Source I had this song in my cd library, but I don't remember what album I had.
