song help: 'star of the show jammmes brown'
DudeAsInCool replied to asphalt's topic in Music Questions
We have a potential successful answer to your song search: "Wow, this is kind of awesome. It brings me right back to junior high for sure. Guys used to do this stuff at our junior high talent shows. :) posted by litlnemo 50 minutes ago Hey! I got it! It's "Let's Rock 'n Roll" by Atlantic Starr. I knew it sounded like one of the bands I either skated roller disco to, or played on the R&B station I used to work at... so I started browsing the Disco category on iTunes Music Store to see if anything rang a bell and there it was. posted by litlnemo 32 minutes ago *** Ah, there was a 7:26 12" mix, so my bet is that is the track. Find it here *** Let me know, so I can congratulate litlenemo at AskMetafilter -
Not a very good recording, but I can tell the part you played is from the disco era. The electronica portion makes me think it might be from a soundtrack for a movie. Can you provide some more of it, and can you put the mic closer to the song source?

TPJ1965 is once again spininng videos in the Soul/Funk/Jazz forum tonight at Beatking and he has put together another stellar collection for lovers of jazz. First up is a rare 1959 Miles Davis & John Coltrane performance of the classic "So What"--followed by the all-star band Foreplay , with Bob James on keyboards, Nathan East on bass, and Harvey Mason on drums, and featuring guitarist Lee Ritenour in one video and guitarist Larry Carlton in another-- and closing the session, with two funky latin videos - one starring Spanish Harlem pianist Eddie Palmieri, and Steel Orchestra leader Any Narrel. Oh, and saving the best for last, you have to check out magic bassplayer Victor Wooten's performance of Lennon & MCartney's Norwegian Wood - it's amazing. You can find them all HERE and more. Enjoy.

In his article, "Maybe Google Wanted to be Sued: YouTube and Plan B, Michi knows explores whether a lawsuit fit into Google's plans for Youtube and the copyright dilemma: "No matter how you spun it, a lawsuit was waiting to pounce on YouTube. And when the lawsuit came, it would be from multi-billion dollar media conglomerates. Worst of all, people feared it will trigger a landslide of more lawsuits. And even still, Google bought YouTube. And now the billion dollar war has begun. And I wondered: Maybe Google actually wanted to be sued." ...Plan A was to hope people would be nice and look the other way. That worked for a year so far, and Google hoped it would continue. Plan B was to get sued. This isn’t any ordinary “get sued and win” plan. Waiting to get sued so you can win in court is a defensive move for most companies. But for Google, this is preemptive. This is about Google defending YouTube, instead of YouTube defending YouTube. SAN FRANCISCO, March 20 — Google is experimenting with a new proposition for advertisers: if you don’t get results, you don’t pay. The company said Tuesday that it would expand a test of a system that allows advertisers to pay only when an ad spurs a consumer to take an action, be it purchasing a product, subscribing to a newsletter or signing up to receive a quote from a mortgage broker or car dealer. The vast majority of advertisers now pay Google when a user clicks on ads that are displayed alongside its search results or on other Web sites, while some are billed based on how many people view the ads. I would add The Root's "Long Time Coming' and Lupe Fiasco's "Kick Push" to that list -
I posted a version of this not too long ago...along with a love Miles performance of 'Tutu' off his Amandla album. But one can never get enough of Miles Davis and John Coltrane

Very nice! If you have any more Eddie Palmieri, please post them. I see he developed alot of his music in Spanish Harlem...is he based in the US or in Latin America? Are you a musician, TPJ?

Damn, that is some serious bass playing - it sounds like he is playing a guitar and bass at the same time!

Nice add :) -
That's a supergroup and one I should have known about. Both videos are terrific Back in the day, I had most of the CTI collection - Bob James played on just about every one of those records. Lee Ritenour and Larry Carlton were both fine guitarists; I think Larry played on alot of Joni Mitchell albums, and tons of other stuff, too. Thanx for the heads up

ST. LOUIS (AP) -- Luther Ingram, the R&B singer and songwriter best known for the hit ''If Loving You Is Wrong (I Don't Want to Be Right),'' has died. He was 69. Ingram died Monday at a Belleville, Ill., hospital of heart failure, friend and journalist Bernie Hayes said Tuesday. He had suffered for years from diabetes, kidney disease and partial blindness, his wife, Jacqui Ingram, said. Ingram performed with Ike Turner at clubs in East St. Louis, roomed with Jimi Hendrix in New York and was the opening act for Isaac Hayes. He recorded through the 1980s and performed in concert until the mid-1990s, when his health began declining. Read more at the NYTIMES

Bush Warns Dems to Take Offer in Firings WASHINGTON — A defiant President Bush warned Democrats Tuesday to accept his offer to have top aides speak about the firings of federal prosecutors only privately and not under oath, or risk a constitutional showdown from which he would not back down. Democrats' response was swift and firm: They said they would start authorizing subpoenas as soon as Wednesday for the White House aides. Read More

Me, too - it's called Double Vision. They are a Chicago-based band and you can listen to more stuff HERE. I also think I.W.F.U. is a procative title for a song - short, snappy and to the point
