  9. Fitzgerald Ranked During Leak Case Justice Dept. Fired 2 With Same Rating U.S. Attorney Patrick J. Fitzgerald was ranked among prosecutors who had "not distinguished themselves" on a Justice Department chart sent to the White House in March 2005, when he was in the midst of leading the CIA leak investigation that resulted in the perjury conviction of a vice presidential aide, administration officials said yesterday. The ranking placed Fitzgerald below "strong U.S. Attorneys . . . who exhibited loyalty" to the administration but above "weak U.S. Attorneys who . . . chafed against Administration initiatives, etc.," according to Justice documents. The chart was the first step in an effort to identify U.S. attorneys who should be removed. Two prosecutors who received the same ranking as Fitzgerald were later fired, documents show. 11. MySpace, the Web’s largest social network, has gradually been imposing limits on the software tools that users can embed in their pages, like music and video players that also deliver advertising or enable transactions. At stake is the ability of MySpace, which is owned by the News Corporation, to ensure that it alone can commercially capitalize on its 90 million visitors each month. But to some formerly enthusiastic MySpace users, the new restrictions hamper their abilities to design their pages and promote new projects. Read more at the NY Times

Beatking DJ tpj1965 has been serving up some terrific Jazz videos tonight in the Soul/Jazz/Funk Forum, including live performances from Joshua Redman, Charlie Parker, Dizzie Gillespie and Coleman Hawkins. 14. John Mellancamp - My Aeroplane from his new cd, Freedom's Road
  15. That was an amazing production. The set design was top notch and the backup band is one of the best I've ever seen. I didn't know Sheila E played congas or drums. And Prince's Santana rendition was nice surprise. Nice selection, tpj
  16. Nice to know the progeny are performing, too. Nice stuff. Partied once with his dad at Penn State - our jazz club showcased Keith Jarrett, in which Dewey played sax...and a bunch of us hung out afterwards
  17. His dancing at that award show is hard to top - one of the best performances ever. I think the album was produced by Quincy Jones - if Michael was smart, he would bring him back in to the picture
  18. Hank Jones, Ray Brown and Buddy Rich as sidemen...not too shabby for backup *** Charlie Parker is commonly considered one of the greatest jazz musicians, ranked with such players as Louis Armstrong and Duke Ellington. Jazz critic Scott Yanow speaks for many jazz fans and musicians when he states that "Parker was arguably the greatest saxophonist of all time."[1] A founding father of bebop, Parker's innovative approach to melody, rhythm and harmony was enormously influential on his contemporaries, and his music remains an inspiration and resource for jazz musicians (as well as many musicians working in other genres). Several of Parker's songs have become standards, such as "Billie's Bounce," "Anthropology," "Ornithology," and "Confirmation". Parker also became an icon for the Beat generation, and was a pivotal figure in the evolving conception of the jazz musician as an uncompromising artist and intellectual, rather than just a popular entertainer. At various times, Parker fused jazz with other musical styles, from classical (seeking to study with Edgard Varèse and Stefan Wolpe) to Latin music (recordings with Machito), blazing paths followed later by others.
