  6. Click on flyer for tickets and more info Man o Man. We've got a show for you. Beyond the real deal is the unreal deal, and therein waits the band RTX, which is Jennifer Herrema, with pelts and furs attached at all times (in case she needs a friend, she says), and four unflagging shredmen, whose fingers tap out the sort of ultra-speed telemetry patterns that used to beam down from Soyuz capsules in the 60s. The band skilfully plays tuff-stuff metal of the kind they used to make good cars from, using instrumental acrobatics-by-increment that punish knuckles and dissolve paragraphs of rote scholastic memories. On tour, they’ve had bands demanding apologies by about day four. At home, they are as sweet as pie. They aren’t the last of a rock music genre, as the press likes to say; as far as can be discerned, they are the first of something else. LIVE: RTX + THE SUZUKIS 7-1 £10 adv

  10. Click on flyer for tickets and more info B) Sneaky Sound System! Their single ‘I Love It' had the longest chart run in Oz history, their debut album has gone twice platinum and at one point they had four singles in the Top 40. They played the Antipodean Live Earth concert, supported Robbie Williams, and cleaned up at the Arias, the down-under version of the Brits. Yet Sneaky are not a hard-touring rock band or a manufactured pop act. They're certainly pop and proud of it, but their background lies in their country's exploding dance scene. Sneaky Sound System are Sydney trio Miss Connie, Black Angus and MC Double D, three very different characters bonded by a riotous sense of fun. Their origins lie in the hugely successful club night Sneaky Sundays, thus they make music imbued with frolicking nightlife energy but also flecked with sing-along radio-friendly 1980s electro-pop. DJS: SNEAKY SOUND SYSTEM + NICK MATTHEWS 6-12 £3 adv
  11. Expect a night of ambient-techno and serene electronica from the three members of A Mountain Of One whose music has already been tagged by Vice magazine as “future Balearic classics”. Mo Morris, Leo Elstob and vocalist/pianist Zeb Jameson will be presenting an exclusive live showcase of new material from the forthcoming EP & album. Early-70s fetishists, their songs, often 10 minutes long, are slow and meanderingly melodic and their ambition is to make the 21st century Dark Side Of The Moon - they have already been compared to Arthur Lee, Santana and Pink Floyd. One half of Rub N Tug Thomas Bullock was once pumping beats into the heart of New York City's underground scene is a purveyor of seedy, risqué, hell-bent indulgence. The Time and Space Machine is a new project from Richard Norris, one half of Beyond The Wizard's Sleeve. This freak beat outfit counts influences from sunshine, outer space, quantum mechanics and wah wah pedals. Expect spaced-out Balearic AV craziness. The New Electric Hi-Life is AJ Holmes’s unique blend of West African Highlife music and British Electronic Pop. Highlife is a musical genre that originated in Sierra Leone, Ghana and Nigeria starting in the 1920's - a hybrid of African and European music styles. Click on flyer for tickets and more info Discovered in the 80s by producer Joe Boyd (Pink Floyd, Clapton, Nick Drake...) at a Bulgarian village wedding party, Ivo Papasov was already a legend at home. The Gypsy King of Wedding music, he'd been thrown into a Communist jail for playing non-approved (‘Gypsy') music, and had to change his name, from the more Turkish ‘Ibrahim'. Boyd signed him to Hannibal and brought him to the West. Now Papasov is on the road again. After winning a BBC Award for World Music in 2006, he brings his high-energy band to Cargo. The intensity and fury of this intuitive group, playing fast and loose with traditional Bulgarian tunes, has been compared to Motorhead. "clear a space for the nearest available floor and be prepared to get up and dance" (BBC Music) Support from Koby Israelite Band Leading on accordion, Koby Israelite's music has been described as "Naked City, Zappa, Taraf de Haidouks and Fantomas all rolled into one". 19. Head lining tonight is the one and only Coki of DMZ fame. If you don't know about him he's the Leading dubstep dj/producer, one-half of Digital Mystikz and co-founder of the DMZ record label and club night. Nice. Next up we have Lone, of Kids In Tracksuits fame. Its his album launch tonight and he'd like you to come and celebrate it. He's a really safe guy and a talented producer so you really don't want to dissapoint him. Bullion is (although he might not dig the comparison too much at this point) like mashing and moulding the best of JDilla and Flying Lotus. Heard "Get Familiar" yet? It’s huge. Buy it. We also have Aaron Jerome representing, and after his fresh BBE release it’s going to be mad fun to see what he cooks up for tonight. Accompanying him are some secret guest vocalists (now you really do have to come!) that will round off the night perfectly. 20. A woman's work is never done. In this instance, the never ending craft of churning out songs of love pangs, self discovery and social f*ups nags the desire to constantly un-cover the offsprings of Joni Mitchell, Nina Simone, and Kate Bush. In walks Stephanie McKay with pen and fight in hand - true fashion of those past musical heroines. On Stephanie's latest release "Tell it Like it Is" (Muthas of Invention) she takes the the honest song writing techniques of the 60s and places the 70s freedom for funk to create a vivid new album that has something bigger to say. The album is packed with classic gems from the feel-good joy of lead single 'Jackson Avenue' which reminisces over the early days of hip-hop and life in the Bronx to the outrageously funky, horn-fired groove of 'Kinky.' Karima Francis runs far away as possible from loose limb compositions with her mighty sonants. The Blackpool singer/songwriter began her career playing drums for numerous local punk and metallic bands, until a move a few years ago to Manchester unveiled a deeper aptness that even surprised the young twenty-something to much a veil. Karima's soulfully expressive, unique vocal style is utterly bewitching, couple with a clutch of sensational songs and you would find it almost impossible to believe that she has only in fact been playing and writing seriously for a little over 3 years. Her debut album off of Kitchenware Records (home of Editors) is slated to be release the beginning of next year. LIVE: STEPHANIE MCKAY + KARIMA FRANCIS 7-12 £8 adv, £10 on the door www.cargo-london.com/stephanie-mckay/

  22. Seun Kuti is Fela Kuti's last son. Seun's father, Fela Anikulapo Kuti, was Nigeria's most beloved popular musician and most acerbic social critic until his death in 1997. Like father like son, Seun started learning to play saxophone and piano when he was eight, and not a year later he was already performing in front of live audiences. He began his career as support band for his father's band, Egypt 80. It is with this same band that he now performs; meaning that Seun is just about the youngest in the band; all of whom have performed with the legendary Fela Kuti on stage. Having packed out The Barbican Seun Kuti will now perform in a more intimate setting, where you can move your feet to the sounds of the true heir to Fela Kuti's throne.
