  1. well, I buy all my books in the bargain bin and closeout sales so Im not exactly reading anything new. lately though, I just finished a book called "Blood and Splendor" by Daniel Myerson. in essence, this book was an overview of four tyrants (nero, ivan grozny, hitler, stalin, and saddam) and what exactly made them tick. an overview as I said- and therefore brief- but it was a good read. Im currently reading a compilation of the best magazine articles of the year 2000. some good stuff there. Im also reading a book called "Great Mambo Chicken & The Transhuman Condition: Science Slightly Over The Edge" which deals with hubristic science such as gene manipulation, space colonization, true artificial life (not just intelligence) destructing the sun piece by piece, etc. by an Omni Magazine contributor by the name of Ed Regis. ok, and Im reading a semiautobiography of Einstein called "God's Equation" too. In addition to all this I have about 1000 fictional books spread between 3 houses and a storage unit that I choose from to read on a whim and as time permits. Lastly, I read many magazines on a monthly basis. National Geographic, NG adventurer, mental floss, cjr, colors, backpacker, maximumpc, cpu, discover, scientific american, wired and my monthly orchid magazine are the first that comes to mind. so, if you're wondering why I said I tend to survive on a 36/8 hour cycle in the sleep thread... well... I give you the above. wingnut dont correct my grammar! I know it is bad! dangit, I mean, I know it is poor!
  2. Im usually on something like a 36 up/8 to 12 out cold cycle. although sometimes I turn into an underachieving rip van winkle and disappear for monthes on end. it all depends on a complicated combination involving phases of the moon, alignment of the planets and the radio waves that get in through my tin foil hat. those sneaky bastards.
  3. this is a sweet site, all dfferent kinds of underground/unpublished reggae artists here: http://www.versionist.com
  4. hmmm... some of my favorites are Blackalicious, living legends, atmosphere, unknown prophets, the grouch, eligh, murs and the mystic journeymen. sunspot jonez is pretty durn good too. all of these groups can be found via your choice of internet transmission.
  5. lmao.... then I guess its a good thing that Im wearing my asbestos and lead lined ass armor isnt it? you know, what with all these flames and beatking boots around these parts!
  6. hell man... you cant go wrong with roots stuff like peter tosh or burning spear. Im also into king tubby, yellowman, eek a mouse, pato banton, jimmy cliff. also, lee perry is responsible for so much of the dub out there. in texas it might be bob wills but in the islands bob marley is still the king... last, this is a website that one of my oldest and best friends just set up to promote himself. after I get some good copies I'll be happy to share some of his music with whatever reggae fans there are here: http://www.love-life-records.com/index.htm blackwolff's name is Neil and he has some damn good lyrical hip hop and roots reggae tracks... been distributed in bermuda and jamaica for a few monthes now and just got distribution rights in the USA. stop by and wish him luck!
  7. I was just reading about Lomax's trip around the country (mostly the south) to record old spiritual and original blues works. its nice to hear now that his dedicated work is being preserved at such a level. thanks kooperman! now, anyone here know how to gain access to these recordings?
  8. now now grab_grab... that is most certainly not in the spirit of this site and is a slight against the atmosphere trying to be established here. me thinks that if you continue along with this declaratory line you will rapidly find yourself... BANNED!
