2. By Rob Markman Rick Ross and Meek Mill are set to drop new albums in the coming weeks, and while MMG soldier Stalley is still coasting off a recent mixtape release, he's already looking forward to his official debut, which will likely drop in 2013. "We're workin' on an album right now," Stalley confirmed to MTV News while he walked the red carpet July 1 at the 2012 BET Awards in Los Angeles. "I'm in the studio. I just got in there about a week ago, so it's a whole big process. Right now, I'm thinking maybe top of the year would be the album." In 2009, Stalley began to make noise online with the Madlib-inspired mixtape MadStalley: The Autobiography, which he released in conjunction with Mickey Factz's GFC Camp. The bearded spitter saw his buzz grow when he linked up with Damon Dash's DD172 outfit and began collaborating with the likes of Mos Def, Curren$y and Ski Beatz. It was on 2011's Lincoln Way Nights that Stalley truly found his voice and earned himself a spot on Rozay's roster. This past spring, he released his Savage Journey to the American Dream tape and then made a significant contribution to Maybach Music's recently released Self Made Vol. 2 compilation. With all that he has accomplished, crafting his debut album is the next logical step for Stalley — after all, he has some pretty great teachers with Ross and Wale, who is readying his third LP. "I definitely just take their energy, and I definitely watch their energy and watch how they do things," he said of his MMG comrades. "I'm very observant of how they set up their albums and set up their singles and things like that, being that it's all new to me. That's great company to keep and great people to watch." 3. At long last, a US theatrical trailer for "Cosmopolis" has hit the web. While the movie looks as trippy as ever, this teaser gives us a better sense of the shape of the movie than anything that has come before. And boy does Robert Pattinson look comfortable in such a bizarre, edgy movie. We're used to seeing him as our favorite sparkly vampire, Edward Cullen, but it looks as though his portrayal of Eric Packer might be our favorite performance of his yet. "Cosmopolis" made its premiere at Cannes in May, and will hit theaters on August 17. It tells the story of a Wall Street billionaire who spends the day driving around New York City in his limousine as the stock market, his fortune and society begin to crumble around him. David Cronenberg directs the film, which stars Pattinson, Sarah Gadon, Juliette Binoche, Jay Baruchel, Samantha Morton, Kevin Durand and Paul Giamatti. The cast of "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn -- Part 2" is headed to MTV News Comic-Con headquarters in an hour to talk anything and everything related to the final installment of the beloved series. Make sure you tune in to our livestream starting at 1pm ET/10am PT to get the scoop! What did you think of the "Cosmopolis" trailer? 4. By Gil Kaufman Frank Ocean's name has made headlines more than ever in the past week, and it seems like that sudden scrutiny might be really fueling the sales of his Def Jam debut Channel Orange, which he unexpectedly released one week early. The record, which has garnered near-universal praise as well as heightened attention since Ocean made headlines last week by sharing his story about a previous relationship with a man?, won't top the Billboard 200 chart, but is handily beating early sales forecasts. Billboard reported that Orange was originally expected to move around 40,000 to 50,000 copies. That would have put it in line with the chart debut of Odd Future's The OF Tape Vol. 2 earlier this year (#5, 40,000) and OF leader Tyler, the Creator's 2011 album Goblin (#5, 45,000). But after Orange leaked before its planned July 17 release date, the decision was made to put it out immediately on iTunes and clearance was given to retailers to put it on shelves as soon as they receive it. That led Billboard to predict that Orange could wind up in the #2 slot next week on sales between 100,000 and 120,000. If the upper range of sales holds, that would put Ocean not far off the pace of Chris Brown, whose fifth album, Fortune, snagged the #1 spot this week on sales of 135,000. While Ocean won't hit the top spot thanks to the chart debut of the latest album from the Zac Brown Band, the strong sales are even more impressive considering that major big-box retailer Target confirmed this week that it would not stock the disc because of the early iTunes release. Ocean's manager, Christian Clancy, suggested in a since-deleted tweet that Target's decision was possibly tied to the company's past donations to "non-equal rights organizations." Clancy later retracted those comments and Target denied the claims, saying that the decision came because of a policy of not stocking CDs that are released "digitally in advance of the street date." 11. For the next 22 weeks, MTV Movies Blog will be running what we call the Bond-a-Thond. Every Wednesday we're taking a look back at a single (official) Bond film, giving you the vitals and seeing how it holds up, right up until the release of "Skyfall" on November 9. Feel free to watch along with us and share your thoughts or just kick back and enjoy the Bond. You Only Live Twice (1967) Plot: SPECTRE is back once again, this time capturing space capsules from the U.S. and the Soviet Union in order to start war between the two and catapult Japan to the status of superpower. Title Meaning: Refers to James Bond's faked death at the beginning of the film. Blofeld later speaks the line. Bond: Sean Connery Villain: After two felts of hiding in the shadows, Ernst Blofeld finally shows his face in the form of Donald Pleasence. Bond Girl: Aki, the doomed Japanese agent, played by Akiko Wakabayashi, and James' wife, Kissy, played by Mie Hama. "Bond, James Bond" Occurrences: 0 Martinis: 1 Card Games: 0 Cigarettes Smoked: 1 Explosions: 74 Tuxes Worn: 0 Kills By Bond: 23 Most Creative Kill: Trapped inside of the volcano lair control room, Bond is allowed one cigarette, one that happens to contain a rocket. Gadgets: As mentioned above, Bond fires a rocket from a cigarette. He also flies around in a portable mini-copter. Mental State of Miss Moneypenny: Surprisingly well-behaved Sexual Partners: 4 (Nameless Chinese Girl, Helga Brandt, Aki, Kissy) First Occurrence of Sex: 5 minutes in Most Unrealistic Moments: During the aerial pursuit, James uses the flame throwers on his helicopter. It looks ridiculous. Most "Bond" Moments: To become "more Japanese," Bond undergoes some plastic surgery from "doctors" in bikinis. They narrow his eyes and add a bad wig. Sign of the Times: Bond and the head of Japanese intelligence discuss the differences between English and Japanese women. There's a metaphor about Peking duck in there somewhere. Place in Bond History: Obviously, the biggest reveal of the film has to be Donald Pleasence as Blofeld. He chews the volcanic scenery, but it's hard to not love every second he's on the screen. This was also the last film for Connery before his one-film hiatus. He would return for "Diamonds Are Forever." Review: Of all the Bond films with Connery in the lead, "You Only Live Twice" has aged the worst. From its almost satirical handling of race to the outer space sequences, no other Bond film has reached so far beyond the bounds of reality or believability. Such shortcomings would be mostly negligible in any film from the era ("Hey, it was a different time!"), but the narrative and character weaknesses of "You Only Live Twice" cast a brighter light on the more trivial issues. In the course of five films, almost all signs of James Bond's humanity have disappeared. He is so emotionally detached from the people and the events around him that it sucks any sense of suspense out of the many action sequences. He even takes a wife to become "more Japanese," but she enters the picture so late and with little else but a temporary resistance to sex to characterize her, that whether she lives or dies becomes as important as whether one arbitrarily chosen henchman pulls through. It almost seems silly to criticism a Bond film on these terms—it's supposed to be fun, after all—but "You Only Live Twice" makes it readily apparent why the humanity and vulnerability of Bond in "Casino Royale" came as such a shock to the series. The Bond-a-Thond will return next week in "On Her Majesty's Secret Service." What do you think of "You Only Live Twice"? Let us know in the comments below and on Twitter! View the full article
12. By Sowmya Krishnamurthy Meek Mill and Philadelphia pastor Rev. Jomo K. Johnson, who is waging a boycott against the rapper, went toe-to-toe on Wednesday (July 11) in a volatile interview on Philadelphia’s Hot 107.9 radio station. Meek addressed Johnson's accusations that he is a negative, blasphemous role model in what turned into a heated exchange. “This looking like you trying to get famous, or you need some attention, because you could have came to me and said anything you wanted to say,” Meek said. “I might've helped you. If you needed money for your church or whatever I might've woulda gave you that money. I might've even remixed the song ["Amen"] with Kirk Franklin or anything you wanted to do. You went about it... like you looking for attention and fame.” Johnson responded, “My plea to you is to turn from sin, turn from blasphemy, turn from unrighteousness, that you’re purporting in your music—turn to Jesus Christ and receive eternal life. It doesn’t matter how much money you get, without Jesus Christ you will be lost eternally.” The pastor went on to say that he wanted to see Meek saved and he himself did four years in jail and God changed his life. The two continued to go back and forth. Meek blasted Johnson for having a worse criminal record than he has and got audibly angry about why his charity work in the community doesn't get the proper attention. “Where was you at?” screamed Meek and then cited how his 80-year-old grandmother is religious and has no problems with the song. “He can't judge me!" yelled Meek. "When you blast Jesus Christ...I have the right to say it's wrong," said Johnson. The lengthy argument continued on without conclusion. RapFix reported yesterday that Johnson has urged fans to boycott Meek over, among other things, what he deems the blasphemous song "Amen." The number featuring Drake has heavy sexual overtones and uses religions themes and soundscapes. Johnson first called for a boycott of Meek on his blog, Deadestrapperalive.com and he has also self-published a book on the subject called "No Amen: Why Boycotting Meek Mill Will Help Save Hip Hop." 13. Last November, Italian police (Guardia di Finanza) shut down a prominent network of five filesharing sites including ItalianShare.net. Together the sites had more than 300,000 users and carried 31,402 links to movies, music, TV shows, software and games indexed on BitTorrent, cyberlockers and eDonkey networks. This week the Italian fiscal police concluded their investigation into the 49-year-old operator of the sites, known online under the pseudonym “Tex Willer.” The operator was arrested and is suspected of facilitating copyright infringement and several related crimes. In addition, five others have been charged with multiple offenses including tax fraud and counterfeiting. According to the authorities, Willer also earned 37,000 euros by making the site’s user database available to advertisers. Emails and IP-addresses were sold without permission of the site’s members, which is a violation of privacy law. The operator is also suspected of creating fake invoices worth 100,000 euros, and failing to pay 83,000 euros in taxes. In total, Willer made a profit of 580,000 euros since he began his activities in 2007. The authorities claim that the value of the copyrighted works that were made available amounts to 32 million euros. For these copyright infringements Willer is facing hefty fines. Enzo Mazza, president of Italian anti-piracy group FIMI, told TorrentFreak that this “is a very important case.” “For the first time the Fiscal police did a very sophisticated analysis of the economics behind an infringing site using the standard procedure they are using for the money laundering investigation. We applaud the investigation of the fiscal police and the action taken by the public prosecutor from Salerno,” Mazza says. While the sites have been shutdown, FIMI says an investigation into the advertisers who collaborated with Willer is ongoing. 21. By James Montgomery Frank Ocean surprised the public last week when he revealed details of an intimate relationship with a man during his teen years, and his Def Jam debut Channel Orange followed soon after. The LP hit retailers one week earlier than expected, but Target won't carry the album. In the days since his revelation, Ocean has remained in the headlines thanks to a powerful performance on "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon" and his equally impactful Channel Orange album, which has garnered near-universal acclaim from fans and critics alike. But Ocean's decision to release the album on iTunes Monday — one week ahead of its July 17 street date — may have caused a momentary lapse in all the goodwill. Because in doing so, he's run afoul of one of the nation's largest music retailers: Target. According to Ocean's manager, Christian Clancy, the early release of Channel Orange means that Target will no longer stock the physical version of the album when it is released next Tuesday. Though, the way he sees it, that decision may also have something to do with his client's recent revelation. "Target has refused to carry Frank's album because of iTunes exclusive," Clancy wrote in a (since-deleted) tweet. "Interesting since they also donate to non-equal rights organizations." In 2010, Target was the subject of a boycott organized by MoveOn.org after it was revealed that the Minneapolis-based retailer donated $150,000 to the political group Minnesota Forward, which backed several candidates across the state, including gubernatorial hopeful Tom Emmer, who reportedly supported an anti-gay ministry. It was not clear whether Clancy was referring to that particular donation in his tweet, and while MTV News' attempts to contact him for clarification proved unsuccessful, he's subsequently written another message that reads: "Note to self: Take your own advice. Emotional knee-jerk reacting isn't the move." It bears mention that Target does stock albums by openly gay artists like Adam Lambert and Elton John, and in recent months, began selling gay pride T-shirts, with proceeds going to the Family Equality Council, which supports the rights of LGBT parents. Though, from the sound of things, at least one of Clancy's points was spot-on: they won't be selling Channel Orange. In a statement to MTV News, Target would not comment specifically on Clancy's assertions or Frank Ocean, but did say: "At Target, we focus on offering our guests a wide assortment of physical CDs, so our selection of new releases is dedicated to physical CDs rather than titles that are released digitally in advance of the street date." Of course, it appears that the company does make special exceptions to that rule: In 2011, Jay-Z and Kanye West's Watch the Throne (which, coincidentally, features a pair of contributions from Ocean) was released via iTunes four days ahead of its scheduled street date. That move angered several retailers, though it is currently available for purchase in Target stores. A spokesperson for Target did not respond to MTV News' request for explanation on the matter.
