1. By Rob Markman Rappers just can't seem to get their finances in order. On Thursday (July 12) Beanie Sigel was sentenced to two years in prison after admitting to a judge that he's failed to keep up with his federal tax returns. According to Philadelphia's local Fox affiliate, the former Roc-A-Fella rapper is scheduled to report to prison on September 12. Sigel failed to pay more than $728,000 in federal income taxes, reports say. It is estimated that the 38-year-old Philly MC, whose real name is Dwight Grant, earned more than $3 million between 1999 and 2005, but only paid $10,000 in taxes. Things could have been worse for Beans as he was facing up to three years in prison. Sigel made a name for himself as a part of Jay-Z's famed Roc-A-Fella crew and dropped his debut album The Truth in 1999. While he never achieved the commercial success that many had hoped, Beanie has remained one of hip-hop's most respected lyricists. His career hit a serious speed bump after he was sentenced to a year and a day in prison in October 2004 on weapons charges. Beans released a total of four solo albums and became the head of State Property, a rap group and record label that he launched himself and that also spawned a clothing line and two films. Despite all of his accomplishments, Sigel says he didn't earn all the money that people thought. "From the outside looking in, it's like, 'Yo he's getting it,' " Sigel said last July on "RapFix Live" before breaking down the financial splits between him and his business partners at Roc-A-Fella. "The clothing line, it was my idea — the State Property line, I only owned 20 percent of that. It was my idea, I brought that to the table. I brought the movie scripts which led up to all those movies, [with] us that played in it — people don't know we only got SAG wages. We ain't get no money from that." 6. By Miranda Johnson TV’s favorite camera-happy couple, Kim Kardashian and Kanye West, are at it again, this time sporting a matching black and white ensemble while taking a stroll through L.A. Notorious for capturing their most candid moments on film, today was no different as the fashion forward twosome strutted for the cameras. The duo donned white tops paired with their signature black leather pants as they left Yeezy's Hollywood Hills mansion to hit the town. However, each added their own spice to the attire with Kim accessorizing with black spiked Louboutins and a black Birkin while Kanye added blue Nike’s to the mix. Thankfully Kim decided to leave the “KW” branded earrings at home this time around. Kanye made his debut on “Keeping Up With The Kardashians” this week. In the episode, filmed earlier in the relationship, we found out some things the two lovebirds have in common, one thing being a love for cars. Viewers also got to witness Kim Kardashians’ reaction to her shout out on 'Ye's song "Cold” along with Kanye accompanying Kim to the opening of Scott Disick's restaurant. Downey Stephen Daldry's last big movie included New York City as a central part of its story. Now the "Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close" director is in talks to direct the big screen version of one of the biggest musicals to rock Broadway in recent memory. According to Deadline, Universal wants the English filmmaker to helm the movie adaptation of "Wicked," the "Wizard of Oz" prequel that began as a book before it exploded as a top-grossing musical. Gregory Maguire's "Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West" fills in the blanks about the titular "Oz" villain's backstory. The Broadway musical averages $1.4 million per week. Universal was also responsible for the big-screen version of the Broadway hit "Mamma Mia!." Daldry is no stranger to the stage. In addition to his work as film director and producer, he has a rich background in theater, including a Tony Award for "An Inspector Calls." Every single feature film he's directed has been nominated for an Academy Award for either Best Director or Best Picture: "Billy Elliot" (2000), "The Hours" (2002), "The Reader" (2008) and last year's "Extremely Loud," which grossed just under $32 million for Warner Bros. Daldry's stage productions have included this year's "Bridget Jones Diary" on London's West End). If Universal signs him, he'll once again be telling a female driven story ("Wicked"'s other main character is Glenda the Good Witch). "I get frustrated because they say, 'How can a man talk about women?’" he told the UK's Guardian in a 2003 interview. "I say, 'Steven Spielberg didn't need to be an alien to talk about 'ET'. You don't need to be a dog to direct 'Lassie.' It seems to be a denial of the process of imagination, which is a posh word for 'guesswork.'" 10. For a movie as anticipated as Peter Jackson's "The Hobbit," a good amount of controversy arose after a presentation earlier this year at CinemaCon. Bloggers complained that the footage shown in 3-D at 48 frames per second made Middle-earth look like a bad soap opera. It isn't hard to imagine that those specific complaints would upset Jackson, who has championed the new format, but the director has stood by the footage. But for "The Hobbit" presentation at Comic-Con, Jackson is presenting footage in run-of-the-mill 2-D and 24 frames per second. The LA Times spoke with Jackson about the lead-up to the panel and what he hopes will come out of it. Check it out after the jump! Jackson told the LA Times he wants to put the focus of the panel squarely on the content of the footage and not the format. "There is a huge audience waiting to see 'The Hobbit,' and any positive press from Comic-Con will truthfully have little impact on that," he said. "However, as we saw at CinemaCon earlier this year, with our 48 frames per second presentation, negative bloggers are the ones the mainstream press runs with and quotes from. I decided to screen the 'Hobbit' reel at Comic-Con in 2-D and 24 frames per second, so the focus stays firmly with the content and not the technical stuff. If people want 3-D and 48fps, that choice will be there for them in December." While principal photography recently wrapped on "The Hobbit," Jackson suggested that he's not quite done with filming yet. "The material is so rich," he said. "In fact only this last week or two, we’ve been talking to the studio about allowing us to shoot some additional material next year, to fully complete the story." Are you disappointed "The Hobbit" isn't presenting footage at 48 frames per second? 13. There are many, many sequels, prequels and reboots being made of some of our most beloved films, and we almost always initially rebel against their announcements. All it takes is one good bit of casting news to change that skepticism to excitement, though, and we just got that one for the planned "Vacation" reboot/sequel. Variety is reporting that Ed Helms is in negotiations to play the role of Rusty, who was played by Anthony Michael Hall in "National Lampoon's Vacation." The movie will follow him taking his own family on a vacation to Wally World, which of course doesn't go as smoothly as planned. We hope that Helms gets locked down for the part, because it seems like a perfect fit. This "Vacation" project already has a good pedigree, as John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein are both directing and writing it. Daley has written "Horrible Bosses" and "The Incredible Burt Wonderstone," and it seems like he has the skills needed to write a worthy installment in the "Vacation" series. There is apparently also hope that Chevy Chase and Beverly D'Angelo will reprise their roles as Clark Griswold and his wife Ellen. All right, we can get on board with this finally. 15. Mac Miller reached out to Lord Finesse in an attempt to squash the $10 million lawsuit that the rapper veteran is targeting him with, over a mixtape sample, but to no avail. "I just talked to Lord Finesse. He's still suing me," Mac tweeted on Wednesday night, after news of the lawsuit had already made the rounds. As expected, a big chunk of Miller's two million-plus Twitter followers have been up in arms about Finesse's suit, but the 20-year-old urged them to be civil. "To my fans, don't be disrespectful. Finesse is a legend. If you have a problem with his actions, be intelligent about it and be respectful," he wrote on the social-networking site. "Wow .. Mac. We spoke trying to resolve the situation. Next thing you back on Twitter.. wow ... " Finesse responded with a tweet of his own. Finesse is looking for payback for Mac's "Kool Aid & Frozen Pizza," a mixtape single on which Miller rhymed over the instrumental from the rapper/producer's 1995 single "Hip 2 da Game." The jacked track was included on Mac's 2010 breakout tape K.I.D.S. (Kickin' Incredibly Dope Sh--) and was never sold, a common practice for up-and-coming rappers. Still, Finesse is alleging copyright infringement, unfair competition, unjust enrichment, interference, deceptive trade practices and a host of other claims related to copyright law. "This is a case about a teenage rapper — Mac Miller — copying the music from a song written, produced and performed by Lord Finesse, a hip hop legend, changing the title and then distributing it under his own name in order to launch his music career," the complaint received by Courthouse News Service states. Lord Finesse broke out in 1990 when he and DJ Mike Smooth released their debut album, Funky Technician, but Finesse would receive the most notoriety as a member of the beloved Diggin' in the Crates crew, which also included Fat Joe, Diamond D and the late Big L. Finesse was the chief producer behind Big L's 1995 debut, Lifestylez Ov Da Poor & Dangerous. He also crafted a track on the Notorious B.I.G.'s classic Ready to Die and Dr. Dre's 2001 album (most commonly referred to as The Chronic 2001). Though he was obviously upset by the suit, on Tuesday, Miller expressed his love for Finesse, citing his work with Big L, one of Mac's chief musical influences. "Lord Finesse, thank you for what u did for hip hop," he wrote. "Thank you for bringing my favorite rapper into the game." The very much good news is that director Darren Aronofsky tweeted a picture yesterday of the under-construction ark for his movie "Noah" and from the looks of it, he's made sure that it'll be giant. Along with the picture, Aronofsky also tweeted the following message: "I dreamt about this since I was 13. And now it's a reality. Genesis 6:14 #noah." According to the King James Bible, Genesis 6:14 reads: "Make thee an ark of gopher wood; rooms shalt thou make in the ark, and shalt pitch it within and without with pitch." This is the second time this past week that Aronofsky has turned to Twitter to share news about the project, using the site on Monday to share that Anthony Hopkins would be <a href="http://moviesblog.mtv.com/2012/07/09/anthony-hopkins-joins-noah-as-worlds-oldest-man/">joining the cast. 18. As previously reported, a lawsuit filed April 20 in the US District Court For The Middle District of Florida is targeting fans of American metal band All Shall Perish (ASP). The case is special in two distinct ways. First, this is the only time that alleged sharers of music have been targeted in US copyright settlements suits since the RIAA ended its lawsuit campaign years ago. Second, and most crucially, this campaign being carried out by Panama-based World Digital Rights on behalf of All Shall Perish’s label Nuclear Blast, was initiated without the band’s knowledge or permission and has been continued in the face of their protests. TorrentFreak has stayed in touch with the band’s manager Ryan Downey who told us that on a number of occasions Nuclear Blast have given him assurances that the campaign had been called off. But in May we learned that Judge Sheri Polster Chappell had granted World Digital Rights permission to obtain the identities of 80 alleged file-sharers from US ISPs. We now know that at least one – Cox Communications – received a request from World Digital Rights on May 21 to identify at least one individual. In a letter dated June 20 Cox wrote to that customer noting the following: In the interim the unnamed defendant appears to have sought legal advice and on July 5 his or her lawyer filed a motion to quash with the US District Court For The Middle District of Florida. The motion states that World Digital Rights “…subjects John Doe 12 to the undue burden and expense of involvement in litigation that should never have proceeded in the first place.” Interestingly enough, and especially considering the band’s objections to the action, the problem appears to be a question of who claims the copyright to their album. Under the Copyright Act, no civil action for infringement can be carried out until a copyright has been officially registered. However, according to the motion to quash, World Digital Rights “..fails to establish a prima facie copyright claim because the Work on which Plaintiff claims copyright ownership is not registered with the Copyright Office.” John Doe 12′s lawyer says that she called the United States Copyright Office and discovered that the album ‘This Is Where It Ends’ by All Shall Perish has not been registered as required. “The Subpoena should be quashed because Plaintiff has failed to establish that this copyright infringement claim should actually be heard in this court,” Doe 12′s lawyer adds. It seems absolutely incredible that this process is continuing without the permission of the band, so with that in mind and to be absolutely certain nothing has changed, TorrentFreak triple-checked with their manager, who responded in no uncertain terms. “The band is obviously not involved in this bullshit as you know. I’m not going to keep repeating myself on that. And there’s nothing to contradict that. NOTHING,” Downey told us. “This was done without the band’s knowledge or cooperation and has continued AGAINST their extremely vocal protests in private and in public. Last time I’ll answer that.” This whole situation drives a juggernaut through the notion that copyright infringement actions are there to protect the artists and although we’re no legal experts, we were surprised that John Doe 12′s lawyer didn’t raise this issue with the Court. TorrentFreak wrote to her and asked for comment, but we received no response. As possibly the most objectionable copyright troll lawsuit continuing in the United States today, a fitting end would be for it to collapse in the biggest and most public way possible. This is not what copyrights are for. If any reader has received a letter from World Digital Rights, please write to us in total confidence at the usual address. Source: Lawsuit Against BitTorrent Users Falters, Band Brands Action “Bullshit” </img> </img> View the full article

 21. If there's one thing that the Daniel Craig James Bond movies have been sorely lacking, it's been the presence of Q. Fortunately that has been remedied this time around with the casting of Ben Whishaw. The "Perfume" actor will play a younger version of the fan-favorite character, who has appeared in 22 Bond films. The tech-wizard typically acts in a behind-the-scenes capacity and supplies 007 with gadgets that help him in his missions. “It’s a real thrill to confirm the return of Q in 'Skyfall' played by the enormously talented, Ben Whishaw. We are delighted to have this beloved character back in the series," producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli said in a statement (via SuperHeroHype. Whishaw will be the fourth actor to play a version of Q, though two other actors also played the character in unofficial Bond movies. Desmond Llewelyn most famously played the character from the first time he was called "Q" in 1963's "Live and Let Die" up until 1999's "The World Is Not Enough," which was released only weeks before he died. John Cleese played Q's assistant R in "The World Is Not Enough" and "Die Another Day," but did not reprise his role once Daniel Craig took over the role of James Bond. It will be interesting to see what dynamic Whishaw brings to the movie, especially considering he is younger than Craig. Llewelyn was significantly older than the Bonds he acted opposite, and that relationship became a part of his character. It could be that Whishaw will recreate the character from scratch, while giving subtle nods to the incarnations that came before. Do you think Whishaw will make a good Q?
