It wasn't that long ago that I partially introduced you all to Scorcher, when he sent shots at Dappy for mentioning his name in a freestyle. Now, though, it’s time for the north Londoner to get the full RapFix treatment. Born Tayo Jarrett, 26-year-old Scorcher – a name he gained for lighting up sets and producing fire beats – is someone who will always get a mention when the grime music scene is concerned. Starting out in 2005 as part of the Cold Blooded collective, the MC showed the underground world that he was a lyrical force to be reckoned with when he dropped his first mixtape, Simply The Best Vol 1. The tape was everything that was exciting about grime music at the time: a youngster expressing their harsh realities over gritty beats that will automatically put you in screwface mode. However, it was only when Scorcher released his 2007 mixtape, Leader Of The New School, that I really started paying attention to his skills. The 21-track offering, which had an album quality about it, saw Scorcher showing different sides to him as an MC – rhyming about everything from lengs to love. A couple of single and mixtape releases, a clothing line (Skywalker), and one unsuccessful major label deal later, Scorcher now finds himself in a good musical space. "I'm getting ready to release my new Simply The Best 3 EP, as my supporters have demanded (laughs)," Scorcher told RapFix on his next venture. "My main focus is now on making music that can spread to a wider audience, all without compromising the authenticity that it's made with." Music aside, Scorcher has also dabbled in a bit of small screen acting in his time, namely playing Kamale in 2011’s popular TV drama, Top Boy. For his latest role, Scorcher plays the shady Essay in the new Ron Scalpello-produced Brit flick, Offender. Out in the UK on August 8, Offender will no doubt have the streets (and hopefully mainstream film industry) going crazy! The movie has a strong focus on last year’s London riots, and it also gives an extremely raw insight into the UK Young Offenders’ Institute system. Featuring fellow rappers English Frank (Jake) and G FrSH (Angelface) – who, I feel, make the movie what it is – and Joe Cole playing a mysterious Tommy Nix, Offender is a dark and intense tale about revenge, which will literally have you hanging on to the edge of your seat! Revolver/Gunslinger’s latest production will definitely put off any young person wanting to go to prison to gain stripes, that’s for sure. "It was really fun playing Essay and it was a great learning experience, as I haven't done much acting," says Scorcher on his big screen role. "I think the role was the right size for where I'm at right now. It suited me, so I took it. I think I've caught the bug and can't wait to find another good role that I can bring to life, but I won't be rushing or doing anything just for the sake of it." Drake's lineup for this year's OVO Fest was nothing to balk at (2 Chainz, A$AP Rocky and the Weeknd) but the Toronto rapper had even more surprises in store for his hometown on Sunday night (August 5). While performing dates on his recent Club Paradise Tour, Drake told MTV News that he planned to make OVO Fest 2012 a night to remember, and so he did. "Bringing together the third annual OVO Fest is such a milestone for me," he said. "A lot has happened over the last three years — a journey that I'm so grateful for — but it's always coming home and performing for my hometown that means the most. This year, we're going to bring it just like we do every year: with high energy and music at its best." Drake - Music News By Rob Markman After a few months of rumors, this weekend fans finally got to hear Drake's promised collaboration with Aaliyah on the new single "Enough Said," and fans seem to be feeling it. A number of fans took to Twitter to rally in support of the MC and the song. "When I heard Aaliyah sing on that new song I felt for a moment that she was alive again, she's not, but her legacy is. Thank you @Drake," wrote @_YurHIGHness. "Aaliyah was a great singer and died young in a horrible accident. Drake is honoring her. I respect that so much," @DOMtheB0MB tweeted. The track is polarizing, however: Many expressed their distaste for "Enough Said," noting that though he is a fan, Drizzy didn't know the singer while she was still alive and therefore shouldn't have touched her unreleased material. Two songs, a bit of hustle and some luck is all it took for Rakim Mayers to turn his penchant for spitting Syrup-drenched raps and his knack for fashion into a full-fledged business. Now he is an inductee into MTV Jams' Fab 5 of 2012 class. "If I wasn't doin' this right now, I would probably still be hustlin', not making no money," Rocky told MTV News, alluding to his former life selling God knows what in Harlem, New York. "I mean, it got to the point where I wasn't making no money at all. I went from making a lot of money to damn near making none, so hustling ain't for me." Rocky clearly found his calling with MCing. By Carter Maness After being sentenced to three years in prison back on July 13 for possessing weapons while being a convicted felon, rapper Young Buck checked-in to prison today. He is only expected to serve 18 months as per a judge's orders at the time of sentencing. The former G-Unit rapper reportedly arrived at Yazoo City Medium Security Federal Prison in Southern Mississippi to begin serving his sentence today (August 6). The stint is the result of a 2010 raid, which found federal agents storming Buck's home and finding multiple guns, including a .40 caliber Glock 22. Because Buck, real name David Darnell Brown, is a previously convicted felon, the raid triggered an immediate parole violation with automatic prison time. It's been a rough road for Buck since his glory days atop the charts with 50 Cent, Lloyd Banks and crew. Upon sentencing, Buck was actually thankful for the judge cutting him some slack by knocking the initial sentence down to 18 months. "With the judge not considering my history to subtract some time, I'm just thankful for what time I do have," he told MSNBC at the time. It was only two weeks ago, in late July, that a $300,000 tax bill led the IRS to auction off the rapper's belongings to pay his debts. Warner Bros. has announced that it's bumped back the release of "The Great Gatsby" back to summer 2013, meaning that Quentin Tarantino's latest will go into theaters unopposed on its opening day. Of course, it will still have to compete with the bevvy of films already out in December like "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey," "Les Miserables," "Jack Reacher" and "This Is 40," but at least we can stop losing sleep over whether we'll see "Django" or "Gatsby" first. Dan Fellman, the President of Domestic Distribution at Warner Bros, announced the date change today, saying, “Based on what we’ve seen, Baz Luhrmann’s incredible work is all we anticipated and so much more. It truly brings Fitzgerald’s American classic to life in a completely immersive, visually stunning and exciting way. We think moviegoers of all ages are going to embrace it, and it makes sense to ensure this unique film reaches the largest audience possible.” President of International Distribution Veronika Kwan Vandenberg confirmed, “Baz is known for being innovative, but with this film he has done something completely unexpected—making it in 3D—while capturing the emotion, the intimacy, the power and the spectacle of the time. The responses we’ve had to some of the early sneak peeks have been phenomenal, and we think ‘The Great Gatsby’ will be the perfect summer movie around the world.” It's interesting that Warner Bros. decided to switch "Gatsby" from Oscar contendor to summer blockbuster fairly late in the game, but we can see how it would work well at both times of the year. "The Great Gatsby" is not only an American classic but also one of our country's greatest love stories, so it easily should be able to charm audiences over the summer. It only helps that the film is directed by Baz Luhrmann, stars Leonardo DiCaprio and is both of their first ventures into 3D. We will admit that it sucks we have to wait an extra six or so months to see the film, but we have a feeling it will end up doing better in that new release date slot. When MTV News talked to Daniels earlier this summer about whether a "Dumb and Dumbererer" would happen without Carrey, he told us, "Nobody's doing it without Jim." It's great news that Daniels is sticking to that, and that it seems like there's a chance Carrey will come back on board. It turns out that one of the biggest problems with making the movie is going to be getting everyone in the same place at the same time, though. Daniels addressed the will-they/won't they nature of the movie and why it's taken so long to get it to the big screen at the TCAs. "We thought it was in pretty good shape," he told Crave. "The studio and others wanted some more work done it. The Farrellys wanted more work done on it so they got working on it and I think last week they decided to push the shooting of it to next year, possibly because I wasn’t going to move 'The Newsroom.'" He'll be teaming up with "Scary Movie 3" and "4" writer and director David Zucker (also responsible for the "Airplane" and "Naked Gun" franchises), who is writing and producing this film. We can only imagine what array of horror films they will pull from to satirize this time around. Lohan and Sheen have both recently turned to television to revive their careers. Lohan is starring as Elizabeth Taylor in the Lifetime movie "Liz & Dick," while Sheen's "Anger Management" on FX has proved that he's not too jaded to poke fun at himself. Hopefully Lohan can take on a more legitimate role in "Scary Movie 5" than just playing a caricature of herself, which she likely would have been relegated to in years past. At least both Sheen and Lohan are going be in somewhat of the same mind frame when they start filming this movie. After all, Lohan took the first step in her career revival in 2010's "Machete," and Sheen has landed a role in its forthcoming sequel, "Machete Kills." Robert Rodriguez must be feeling like a proud papa right now, considering his hand in helping out this duo's respective film careers.
