2. By Miranda Johnson Taking over the slot previously held by the now canceled "Ev & Ocho" show, former "Love & Hip Hop" stars Chrissy Lampkin and Jim Jones’ highly anticipated spin-off series will now make it’s debut on VH1 this September. Bearing the title "Chrissy & Mr. Jones," the series will follow Jimmy and Chrissy along with appearances from Mama Jones, and rumors have also swirled that the entire Dipset crew will be making a cameo or two as well. With VH1 airing the 21-second teaser just last night (Monday August 27), the series will trail after the recently engaged couple as they consider having a baby amidst their hectic work schedules. In the clip Jimmy states that he believes that him and Chrissy are ready to have a baby, however he is not so happy when he later realizes that him and his fiancé are not totally on the same page. After an unsuccessful attempt of trying to get Jim on board her plan, “I’ve decided to freeze my eggs," Chrissy says to her soon-to-be mother-in law as the clip ends. Jim definitely won’t be too happy about that one! "Chrissy & Mr. Jones” premieres Monday, September 24 at 9:30 p.m. on VH1. 5. Ethan Hawke isn't exactly the first actor that springs to mind when you're thinking of a lead for a horror movie. The 41-year-old actor has never really starred in a scary movie per se (unless you count "Daybreakers"), and there's a good reason for that. Until starring in "Sinister," in theaters on October 5, Hawke thought actually making a horror movie would be too frightening of an experience. Check out two exclusive images from "Sinister" and the rest of our Fall Movie Preview. Hawke, who's currently in Greece working on the sequel to "Before Sunset" with Richard Linklater, spoke to MTV News for our Fall Movie Preview and shared his old fear of making scary movies. "I really believe that's why for years I never wanted to make one of these movies," Hawke said. "It's because I thought it would be absolutely terrifying to make it, but the irony is, of course, it's incredibly fun to make it. It's kind of like telling a ghost story at midnight with a group of friends. You just laugh a lot, and it seems really silly. I just had a great time making it. I'm not one of those mad enthusiasts of the genre that you hear about. I like certain scary movies that are good. It was just silly and fun." As it turns out, making a horror movie actually isn't that different than making any other film, as long as you're working with the right people. "It's all the same stuff, if you're working with a filmmaker that's talented, that knows about the architecture of film, knows how to tell a story," Hawke said. "There's a real discipline to making these movies. It's like a comedy." Hawke said that like any other genre, horror has its formulas. It just takes knowing the "math." In the case of "Sinister," the man for the job was director Scott Derrickson. "It's all about the timing and the math of it," Hawke said. "What makes something spooky and what makes something cheesy and stupid is a razor's edge. That was the fun of it for me. This guy, Scott Derrickson, had made an incredibly movie called 'The Exorcism of Emily Rose.' I met him, and it was kind of obvious to me that he was a real filmmaker." Even if horror has a formula, it take an extra bit of originality to make something special. "The layers of it are what make it so interesting," Hawke said. "On one level, it's about a guy who puts his work ahead of his family. It's a simple moral tale on that level. On another level, it's about the dangers of watching horror films, and somewhere inside the film itself is something dangerous to you, which is really subversive and f---ed up and interesting." 6. By James Montgomery The future is here. On Tuesday (August 28) at 4p.m. NASA will broadcast will.i.am's latest single, "Reach for the Stars," from Mars. Yes, you read that correctly. The song will be played from the Mars Curiosity rover. It's part of an educational event held at NASA's Jet Propulsion Lab — will is a big proponent of the space program, recording a promotional videotouting the terrestrial benefits of NASA's technologies and occasionallydressing like a space alien — and while we've got to admit that the whole thing is pretty cool, we're concerned that perhaps the broadcast might anger residents of the Red Planet, who, in addition to being our future overlords, are probably Yes fans. Still, in the off chance they actually are bumping Black Eyed Peas tracks on the peak of the Olympus Mons, we've decided to put together a playlist that will appease their fickle Martian ears. Because when they docome to conquer us, we'd like to say we at least tried to make peace. Here are our BEP picks for our neighbors to the (far) north. » "My Humps": Not only is it Chazz Michael Michaels' favorite song, but it's a fitting tribute to the topography of Mars, which, as Curiosity has shown, is full of lumps, lady or otherwise. » "Boom Boom Pow": Have you seen everything that went into landingCuriosity on the surface of Mars? Boom, Boom, Pow indeed. » "Don't Phunk With My Heart"" This is how they spell "Funk" on Mars, after all. » "Meet Me Halfway": Our plea to all the Martians out there: You live on a huge planet, and finding you is probably going to take years. Any chance you could, you know, just rendezvous with us on the lip of the Gale Crater or something? » Fergie's "London Bridge": We're willing to bet most Martians have never been to England, and what better introduction to the complexities of Anglo culture than a song that contains the phrase "Grey Goose got ya girl feelin' loose"? » "I Gotta Feeling": This song was even a huge hit at Martian bar mitzvahs. » will.i.am's "I Got It From My Mama": Since Mars is probably where Interscope hid all the unsold copies of his Songs About Girls album anyway. 10. By Rob Markman, with reporting by James Lacsina Busta Rhymes has given hip-hop some great records, maybe none greater than “Put Your Hands Where My Eyes Can See.” The track, which was officially released as a single in August 1997 had all of the ingredients for a classic hip-hop jam: a party-starting beat, remarkable rhymes and an iconic video to cap it all off. While Busta is chief catalyst behind the record, a number of different influences converged on him before he was able to record the song we now all know and love. It all started 15 years ago with some caring criticism from Q-Tip and Sean "Diddy" Combs. "They were in there talking to me about why I'm 'screaming' on every record," Busta recalled to MTV News last month, referring to a conversation that he and his rap compadres were having in Diddy's storied Daddy's House studio in New York City. Back then, Busta, the fire-breathing, self-proclaimed Dungeon Dragon, was best-known for his rambunctious rants on record. Busta's roaring guest verse on A Tribe Called Quest's classic single "Scenario" and his bellowing ad libs on "Woo Hah!! Got You All in Check" went a long way in cementing the MC as a certified riot starter. But on 1997's "Put Your Hands," he deliberately went in a new direction. Diddy and Q-Tip may have sparked the idea, but it was an old-timer in East Flatbush, Brooklyn, who inspired Busta's monotone flow. As Bussa Buss explains it, people in the predominantly West Indian neighborhood would consistently use the word 'Yo' at the beginning and/or end of every sentence to sound more Americanized. "Yo Busta let me hold $5 yo, wassup yo, you chillin' yo,' " Bus mimicked. As soon as the charismatic power MC heard the beat, which was produced by his friends Shamellow and Buddah, he knew that he had to take Tip and Puff's advice and deliver something much different than his previous work. "Hit you wit no delayin', so what you sayin' yo/ Silly wit my nine milly, what the dealy yo," Bus spit, breathing those now classic words on the track. "That was the beat that felt like the right beat to experiment with that calm vocal tone," he said of the track, which samples Seals and Crofts' 1976 song "Sweet Green Fields." "So I took that and I went to the studio and combined that with the calm flow." The record, which was officially released as a single in August 1997, was a hit, peaking at #2 on Billboard's Hot R&B/ Hip-Hop Songs chart and even bringing Busta a Grammy nomination. Sonically, Bus had delivered something unforgettable, but what he did with the video would rank him as one of hip-hop's greatest visual artists. The Hype Williams-directed clip drew its chief inspiration from Eddie Murphy's 1988 comedy "Coming to America." While Busta's engineers were mixing down "Put Your Hands," the film played on the studio's television on mute, sparking grand ideas. "Things were happening in the scene as the movie was playing that was so perfectly matching what was going on with the record," Busta recalled. The result was an over-the-top music video with regal costume changes, tribal-influenced choreography, Day-Glo body paint and an elephant. "That visual gave us the same feeling that the record was giving us ... and it was a marriage made in heaven," Busta said. As for Diddy and Q-Tip's reaction, "They really made me feel like I made the best record in my life at that time," Busta remembered. 11. Is Hollywood ready for a gritty anti-animal poaching drama in the vein of Steven Soderbergh's Oscar-winner "Traffic"? Actors Tom Hardy, Leonardo DiCaprio and Tobey Maguire think so. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the idea for the film came from Hardy, who was inspired by friends who served as operatives in the Special Forces and later went on to become anti-poaching activists in South Africa and other nations. The "Dark Knight Rises" star has reportedly teamed up with DiCaprio and Maguire to produce the animal trafficking film for Warner Bros., no word yet on whether the three actors will also star in the film, but we'd be even more interested in the project if so. DiCaprio and Maguire are childhood friends who we'll finally get to see onscreen together in next summer's literary epic "The Great Gatsby," and Hardy and DiCaprio became friends from their time together filming "Inception." The combined acting chops of the trio would likely make for fantastic onscreen fireworks, particularly set within an action-oriented animal rights-themed film. The THR story mentioned "Traffic" as a benchmark for the film's tone, but we're thinking if they add some "Blood Diamond" into the mix they can maintain the intensity of the subject matter without getting too preachy. Anyone who's ever watched anti-poaching documentaries or specials on the Discovery or National Geographic channels, or super sad "Gorillas in the Mist" for that matter, is well aware of the fact that the world of animal poachers is despicable, insanely dangerous and devious. 14. With dozens of million of users Dropbox is the leading cloud hosting and synchronization service. The convenience of dropping files into a folder to automatically sync them online and with other devices appeals to a large audience, but some want even more features. Earlier this year many BitTorrent users got excited by the launch of a new Dropbox app that enabled the downloading of torrents directly to Dropbox folders. Unfortunately, this enthusiasm quickly faded when Dropbox banned the app over piracy concerns. According to Dropbox the app’s features “could be perceived as encouraging users to violate copyright using Dropbox.” Luckily, there are also companies who see BitTorrent for the neutral technology that it is. The relatively new Dropbox competitor Maxxo is a good example, underlined by their launch this week of BitTorrent support as a native feature. This means that besides backing up and syncing files across devices, Maxxo also enables users to download torrents. Users can simply drop a .torrent file into the Maxxo interface and right-click to start the download. “By using BitTorrent through Maxxo our users can download files fast and completely anonymously,” Maxxo CEO Luka Hovat told TorrentFreak. “It’s a feature that none of our competitors have.” Because all torrent downloads go directly though Maxxo’s servers, users don’t have to worry about being watched by third parties. Maxxo downloads torrents Maxxo offers free accounts which are limited to five gigabytes of storage and a maximum of two simultaneous BitTorrent transfers. Paid users can download 10 torrent files at a time and have higher storage and transfer limits. For the occasional BitTorrent user Maxxo is a pretty suitable remote download service, or a “seedbox” with automatic sync across multiple computers. TorrentFreak briefly tested the service and aside from the occasional hiccup, most of the torrent files we tried downloaded just fine. Maxxo is currently Windows only but they are working on a Mac application, as well as support for mobile devices. BitTorrent support aside, it also allows users to create lists of friends to easily share files with. We already know he's planning some indecent exposure for his upcoming film "Nymphomaniac," but it turns out that he also took the idea of "getting into character" a bit far in his indie "The Necessary Death of Charlie Countryman." USA Today recently spoke with the actor about the upcoming movie, including the scene where his character trips on acid. It turns out that LaBeouf didn't want that experience to be fake. "There's a way to do an acid trip like 'Harold & Kumar,' and there's a way to be on acid," he said. "What I know of acting, Sean Penn actually strapped up to that [electric] chair in 'Dead Man Walking.' These are the guys that I look up to." Apparently things got a bit intense while filming the acid trip scene on set, as first time feature director Fredrik Bond wasn't too comfortable with the fact LaBeouf was actually on acid. "Sometimes, it does get real," LaBeouf said to the day he shot the scene. "Too real for a [director] who's trying to keep a diplomatic set." That's not the only flick LaBeouf is planning to go fully method for. When he caught up with MTV News recently while promoting "Lawless," LaBeouf teased that he's expecting to have real, unsimulated sex for his upcoming Lars von Trier movie "Nymphomaniac." "[The movie] is what you think it is," he said. "It is Lars von Trier, making a movie about what he's making. For instance, there's a disclaimer at the top of the script that basically says we're doing it for real. Everything that is illegal, we'll shoot in blurred images. Other than that, everything is happening." He added, "It's going to be a wild movie." Starring Chris Hemsworth, Josh Hutcherson and Josh Peck, the film follows a rag-tag group of teens as their town is taken over by North Korean forces. As part of MTV's Fall Movie Preview Week, we've not only snagged an exclusive first-look image from the film, but chatted up Peck about the long-gestating project and its roots in the '80s classic. "It's a trip. It's like I've been in labor for three years," he said. "It definitely had its hiccups and whatnot and took a while, but now that I'm getting feedback from people who are watching the trailer, it's making me as excited as I was to make it." It's worth noting that Peck, along with Hutcherson, wasn't even born when the original stormed cineplexes back in 1984, and Peck made the decision not to watch the first film before making this 21st-century update. "I had the meeting with the director, and the script really stood on its own, so I was able to get a real impression of what I wanted to do just from that," he explained. "I was well aware of this sort of cult following and how people had sort of loved and revered and grown up with it on some level, but I just felt like inevitably, our movie was so different that maybe it would be better to wait to watch it until after we made the movie. But the day we finished I watched the whole thing." What struck Peck most when comparing the two was the pure scale of the remake. "It is just so much more immense, and with a director like Dan Bradley, who has such a history in action films and creating these brilliant over-the-top action sequences, it's truly sort of intricate and in depth and really grabs you. We were just really blessed with the level of technology and the scale of things we were able to utilize. It feels like the stakes are that much higher." Obviously, the stars couldn't rely completely on props and special effects to pack a visual punch — they also had to undergo rigorous training. Peck worked with a number of "salt of the Earth" Navy SEALs — an experience he won't soon forget. "They put me on a no-sugar diet, and I was having breakdowns. I was very emotional. I was probably the only person who welled up halfway through a back squat." Are you excited for the new "Red Dawn"? Are you a fan of the original? 22. By Jocelyn Vena Can we thank Kanye West for this? In a new interview with V magazine, Kim Kardashian addresses the criticism she's faced over the years, during which she compares the rise of reality TV to the rise of rap music. Over the course of her career, Kim Kardashian has faced criticism for her rise to fame, which was accelerated by the release of a sex tape in 2007. No matter what prompted her celebrity status, Kim has quickly become the face of the Kardashian family and a brand unto herself. And despite keeping up with not only her family, but also herself, Kim has received harsh words from Hollywood heavyweights including Jonah Hill,Jon Hamm and Daniel Craig. "It's always funny to me when people say that I'm famous for being famous," Kim told V. "I think it's fascinating, because it's still entertainment, you know? It's fun to see the progression of that idea. I don't take offense to it at all. I'm not naïve to the fact that I'm not a singer or an actress or anything like that. I've never claimed to be anything that I'm not. I think [reality] is still a new form of entertainment that was kind of an unexpected thing." From there, Kim compares the sentiments currently surrounding reality TV to that of the early days of rap music. Kanye West's lady lovecontinued, "When rap music first came out, people were like, 'We don't understand this, what is this, it's just a fad.' But rap music is definitely here to stay, and I think reality shows have proven they are as well. But when something is newer, people don't really understand it." "You can see that soap operas aren't on the air as much anymore. I think reality shows are taking over that genre, but I think the draw to our show is that we are relatable," she further explained. "I think it's just a new world with social media. The interaction I have with my fans and the access is so much fun to me. I love that connection." On top of establishing a one-on-one connection with her fans, Kim added that there's one other thing she'd like to achieve that no other reality star has done before. "I think there was a quote where somebody said that reality stars will never get a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame," she said. "So, of course I'm so competitive that I think that it would be a huge achievement and a goal that anyone would want. I would love to break that mold." 23. On Monday night (August 27) fans got their first taste of the reunion special for VH1's "Love & Hip Hop Atlanta." Part 1 of the explosive sit-down certainly didn't disappoint, with executive producer Mona Scott-Young hosting. Key moments included these showdowns: K. Michelle vs. Rasheeda, K. Michelle vs. Karlie Redd, Stevie J vs. Scrappy and Mimi vs. Joseline. During the season finale K. Michelle and Rasheeda were already at odds, with Rasheeda taking aim at K. Michelle and accusing her of fabricating the details of her domestic abuse case. In part 1 of the finale, K. Michelle, once and for all, comes right out and asks Rasheeda if she believes that the whole thing is made up, to which Rasheed replies with a yes and the two almost come to blows. Still, that wasn't the end of K. Michelle's beef for the night. She also butted heads with foe Karlie Redd with the two throwing daggers at each other, even continuing to make fun of each other's appearances (down to their teeth). As for Stevie J? There was obviously no way for him to stay out of the drama, and when questioned about the details of his fight with Scrappy earlier in the season, things got sticky. An edited version of the fight was aired, and Scrappy later claimed that he did hit Stevie J resulting in a hospital visit for the producer, which Stevie vehemently denied. With each party maintaining that their side of the story was correct, a heated argument (and no solution) was inevitable. As for Stevie J's artist/girlfriend/sidepiece Joseline? She got into it with the producer's longtime girlfriend Mimi when talk of her pregnancy came up. While Joseline accused Stevie J of screwing them both over, Mimi still tried to maintain that he has treated her better and defends sticking with him for 15 years. 24. It seems as though Natalie Portman might have found her ex-lover in the upcoming Lynne Ramsay Western "Jane Got A Gun." And what better man to play him than Michael Fassbender, who is one of Hollywood's hottest talents this year thanks to a leading role in "Prometheus" and the upcoming projects "Twelve Years a Slave," "The Counselor" and "X-Men: Days of Future Past." Vulture's sources are telling them that Fassbender is in negotiations for the role of the titular Jane's ex-lover in the flick. That character is one of "Jane Got A Gun's" two male leads. Portman's involvement in the film was first announced back in May. At the time, we learned that the movie follows Jane after her outlaw husband returns to their home "barely alive and riddled with bullet wounds." She then is forced to turn to her ex and ask for his assistance in defending her home from her husband's gang, who are looking to finish off their former member. We can only assume that there's going to be some sexual tension present between Jane and her ex when they do team up with one another. This is some pretty exciting news for fans of Ramsay. Her last project, "We Need To Talk About Kevin," was one of the most troubling but moving films I've personally seen in a long time. The idea of her taking the strengths of that film and bringing them over to a Western is pretty exciting, especially if Portman and Fassbender are going to be starring in it.
