  1. Going into anaphylactic shock is terrifying. The last time I went into shock, called my mom first, injected myself with an Epi-Pen second, injected myself with a shot of epinephrine third, and 911 last. I had that a bit backwards. Had I been using Adan Medical‘s smart case for Epi-Pens, my mom and emergency response teams would’ve been notified the moment I opened the case. I… Read More View the full article

He will be reporting to Keith Coleman, who is Twitter’s new-ish VP of Product (he joined… Read More View the full article
  4. Australia's marriage equality debate has sparked the attention of celebrities and major companies worldwide, including Ellen DeGeneres. Australians are currently in the midst of a non-binding, non-compulsory nationwide survey asking the question: “Should the law be changed to allow same-sex couples to marry?” Parliament can make the change now, but before it does, it's taking the country's temperature on the matter. Declaring her support for the 'Yes' vote to her casual 73.5 million Twitter followers, the dance-happy comedian posted a very sweet message on Monday, featuring her wife of nine years, Australian-American actor Portia de Rossi. 6. You're just an average consumer, trying to keep your expensive electronics free from malware. And so you, like many before you, decide to pony up and pay for some fancy antivirus software. But this isn't the '90s, and it turns out that you might just be being taken for a ride. Much has changed since the heyday of programs like Norton AntiVirus, and these days installing third-party software on your computer might actually do more harm than good. Figuring out the difference between vital protection and dangerous bloatware is a tricky task, but it's not one you can afford to ignore. SEE ALSO: 'Virus-scanning' iOS apps have always been a scam. 11. Lets say you’re roaming the city on your bike. You know your final destination — but you don’t necessarily care how you get there, or if your route is the shortest possible one. You just want to ride. That’s the idea behind BeeLine, a “fuzzy navigation” device for cyclists. You tell it where you want to go, and it constantly points you in that direction… Read More View the full article
  12. It was one of the highlights of an uneven season 7: Arya Stark (Maisie Williams) returning to Winterfell and showcasing her mad sword skills by sparring with Brienne of Tarth (Gwendoline Christie). But it didn't go down the way you think. For one thing, that wasn't Maisie doing an incredible acrobatic leap from her back, even though CGI fooled you into thinking it was. SEE ALSO: 'Game of Thrones' fans have a huge theory about Arya's endgame Now that HBO's behind-the-scenes video series The Game Revealed has reached Season 7 episode 4, we have this breakdown of the Brienne-Arya choreography — which is well worth a watch. 13. Today at our TC Disrupt event in San Francisco, we had the chance to catch up with investor Steve Jurvetson about a wide number of things that are sweeping across the startup landscape (and might fundamentally change it), from ICOs to Softbank’s giant Vision Fund to AI to Elon Musk’s new Boring Company. Jurvetson had plenty of interesting insights about all, unsurprisingly. He… Read More View the full article
  14. Aw, those nice Stranger Things kids — so nice! So gracious! So accommodating! We're not just talking about the likes of Emmy-nominated Millie Bobby Brown (who didn't trip when she lost a supporting award to Ann Dowd of Handmaid's Tale on Sunday night), but also the marketing and legal departments at Netflix, who were pretty cool about a Chicago pop-up bar totally copping their whole Stranger Things thing to sell some cocktails. SEE ALSO: Barb got her very own shrine at the 'Stranger Things' Comic-Con space The unabashedly Stranger Things-themed "The Upside Down" bar opened last month in Logan Square, but apparently forgot to run that idea by Netflix, which sent a cease-and-desist letter to the temporary business, according to a local report. 18. For the past year, the internet's been Photoshopping the crap out of Donald Trump's every move. It's about time we took it back for a little blast from the past, Obamas edition. During the first 100 days of his first term as president, Barack and First Lady Michelle Obama took some time to help plant a tree at the Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens in Washington, D.C. From the looks of this photo, Michelle did all the work, and Barack wore a white-collared shirt. 21. Great form, terrible timing. A cheerleader for the Kansas City Chiefs found herself in the wrong sport when she was accidentally knocked down by a camera operator on Sunday. SEE ALSO: Dude crashes his parachute in a packed stadium of football fans Before the collision, the cheerleader did a somersault, sending her forward a few feet, and separating herself from the group. The cameraman, who was running across the field at the time, didn't notice, and took her out. The crowd collectively reacted with a loud "ohhhhhh." According to local outlet Fox4, the cheerleader is doing OK, and was not seriously injured in the takedown. Read more... More about Sports, Funny, Culture, Culture, and Sports View the full article

  25. Technically, Todd Beaty and the rest of the team at Cruz Bay Landing should have left St. John more than a week ago. Nonessential occupants were asked to get off the island ahead of Hurricane Irma, a Category 5 storm that obliterated much of St. John, the smallest of the three U.S. Virgin Islands. That storm raged over the island earlier this month, but Beaty and his restaurant staff remain open, and they plan to stay open even as Hurricane Maria swirls toward the island. SEE ALSO: Hurricane Maria rapidly intensifies, aims for a rare direct hit on Puerto Rico Maria is a Category 5 storm that, if the island's luck sours even more, might steamroll whatever is still upright on Saint John this week. The storm is projected to track south of St. Thomas and St. John, which might spare the island from Category 4 or 5 intensity winds. Maria is more likely to make landfall on the island of St. Croix, but it'll probably still harass St. Thomas and St. John with powerful winds and buckets of rain. Read more...
