The Cure-Faith, Pornography (Deluxe Editions)
Crazy Diamond replied to KiwiCoromandel's topic in Rock
Ah, the Cure is still one of my favorite bands. Ironically I was listening to them when I saw this thread. There was a Cure tribute where AFI covered Just Like Heaven ... and surprising didn't suck. There were even times where he actually sounded like Smith. I was pleasently surprised. -
I'd like to add 85% of every top chart made in the last 20 years.

Back to the topic, my fav punks bands would be germs, dead kennedys, adolenents, circle jerks, uk subs, damned, gg allin, dead boys, DOA, social distortion, SNFU, buzzcocks, vibrators. etc.

I couldn't care less about a bands success or public appeal ... and I agree, success doesn't neccesarily mean mainsteam. But selling out is a different matter. Since we're on the subject of punk bands, being on a major label invalidates a lot of political ideals that punk is supposed to stand for. (See above comment about the Clash). Some will argue that there is nothing wrong with a band using a major label to get their messages heard ... and I don't buy that for a second. The end doesn't always justify the mean. Contributing to an organization that continuously fucks over the people you're trying to help means that you're just fucking em over too.

Wait, I'd have to say they're tied with the Clash. Although I do like some the of the Clash's music, as a punk band they lacked originality. Despite their attempt at punk rock politics they were on a major label their entire career.

Lavigne And K-OS Top Juno Awards
Crazy Diamond replied to method77's topic in Music & Entertainment News
Well you'd never know that with this years Junos. And thanks, I didn't even realize how long its been. -
Sex Pistols are the most over rated "punk" (term used very loosly) band there ever was. Lydon can admit it, why can't everyone else?

Was there ever a debate?

I hate top 100 lists. But Jesus and the Mary Chain made it to 23 ... amazing.

Lavigne And K-OS Top Juno Awards
Crazy Diamond replied to method77's topic in Music & Entertainment News
Normally I'll support anything that compliments Canadian music (even though I hate the idea of award shows), but he Junos this year were a complete joke. By far the WORST representation of what Canadians are capible of. I think Lagigne should just hand all her awards to Chantel Kreviatzik (spelling?) cause shes the one that wrote all her lyrics/music (not that I'l like to admit to that but still, credit where credit is due) and she couldn't even be bothered to show up. Canada has a great music scene ... despite what the Junos showed. I was actually going to go at first, just to see Young but unfortunatley couldn't make it. So its a good thing I didn't buy a ticket. Ironic thing is, he always said he'd never ever play an awards show unless Winnipeg got the Junos. My rant for now. -

Hmmm, hates publicity stunts yet she’s dating the guy from Sum 41. As if publicity and popularity had nothing to do with that. Plus she probably would have drawn less attention if she just went to the damn party. So what was more of a publicity stunt, going home or sitting next to Prince Charles? It’s too bad that she’s one of the main musicians representing Canada right now.
