Video: Jorge Elbrose (Ariel Pink and Jorge Elbrecht): "Called to Ring"

Ariel Pink and Jorge Elbrecht (of Violens/Lansing-Dreiden) teamed up last year under the name Jorge Elbrose. Their track "Called to Ring" was featured on a 10" compilation of collaborations that came with Mexican Summer's anniversary book Mexican Summer: Five Years. Now, there's a video for that track, directed by Elbrecht.

Here's a quote from Elbrecht about the video:

For this video we tried to imagine a perfect band to play "Called to Ring," and I think we succeeded. The idea was to have a wash of hair, camo, and white guitars all happening in slow motion, with Ariel and I popping in and out as these cold, eyeless theater masks. As we sing in unison on the recording, we thought we should spend the bulk of the video conjoined. Such a pleasure to work on this with everyone, I'm really proud of how it turned out. "

Other collaborations featured on the Mexican Summer 10" are Autre Ne Veut/Fennesz, Bay of Pigs (Spiritualized, Soldiers of Fortune, and Neil Hagerty), Quilt and Bobb Trimble, and the Lonely Sailor and Renée Mendoza Haran (featuring members of Total Control, Lace Curtain, and Ashrae Fax).

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
