Stream New Releases From Sunn O))) and Ulver, Speedy Ortiz, the Field Side Project HANDS, and Illum Sphere Via Pitchfork Advance

Sunn O))) and Ulver release their collaborative album Terrestrials on February 4 via Southern Lord. Terrestrials is streaming now on Pitchfork Advance, our immersive music streaming platform designed to emulate the classic album experience. It will be available on Advance until February 10.

The Field’s Axel Willner debuts his drone/noise side project HANDS with his new album The Soul Is Quick, out February 10 on Ecstatic. The record follows his excellent 2013 release Cupid’s HeadThe Soul is Quick is streaming on Pitchfork Advance until February 10.

Speedy Ortiz will release their EP Real Hair on February 11 via Carpark. It was recorded and mixed by Paul Q. Kolderie (Pixies, Radiohead) and follows their 2013 debut album Major Arcana. Read our Rising piece on Speedy Ortiz here. The EP is streaming here until February 11.

Manchester producer Ryan Hunn releases his debut LP under his moniker Illum SphereThe Ghosts of Then and Now, on February 11 via Ninja Tune. Listen to Ghosts here until February 10.

Advance is also streaming Mas Ysa’s EP Worth, Aztec Camera’s High Land, Hard Rain reissue, CYMBALS' The Age of Fracture, Disco Doom’s Numerals and Jerome LOL’s EP Deleted/Fool.

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
      You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention. 
      But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
