Rookie: "Go Forth, Feminist Warriors" on SoundCloud.

This month's theme song for online teen-girl mecca Rookie is super-powered: It's an all-star collaboration called "Go Forth, Feminist Warriors" with vocals from (in order of appearance): Waxahatchee's Katie Crutchfield, MNDR, Kate Nash, Kimya Dawson, Suzy X., Rookie founder Tavi Gevinson, Katy Davidson, Marianna Ritchey, Geneviève Castrée (Woelv, Ô Paon), Thao Nguyen, Storey Littleton, Tegan and Sara, Dee Dee Penny of Dum Dum Girls, Ted Leo, and Aimee Mann. Psalm One does a rap. Carrie Brownstein also appears on the song to deliver a freestyle about pizza.

Written by Katy Davidson (Key Losers, Gossip, Lloyd & Michael) and Marianna Ritchey (Lloyd & Michael) with the Rookie staff and produced by Chad Clark, the song is described as "a feminist 'We Are the World'" by Rookie music editor Jessica Hopper (also a contributor to Pitchfork), who put the song together. Sample lyrics: 'They mansplain every night and day/ But they can't mansplain our freedom away," "Our body, our voice/ Our Tumblr, our voice."

Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
