David Byrne Announces Philippines Benefit Show

In April, David Byrne's concept album with Fatboy Slim about the former First Lady of the Philippines Imelda Marcos, Here Lies Love, got a theatrical adaptation at the Public Theater in New York. Now, in the wake of the damage caused by Super Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines, Byrne is throwing a benefit show with the original cast of the production. It'll happen on November 25 at Terminal 5 in New York City, and proceeds will go toward the relief efforts of Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières.

“The show is about the resiliency of the Philippine people—it couldn’t be more timely,” Byrne said in a press release. “Upon hearing about this tragedy the cast contacted me about doing a show to raise money for relief efforts. Most of our cast is Filipino, and all of us feel the same way. It’s personal for all of us."

Benefit tickets are available here.

But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
