Ol' Dirty Bastard Documentary Premiere Cut Off Due to Cease and Desist Order

Last night, the Brooklyn Academy of Music was set to premiere a documentary on Ol' Dirty Bastard called ODB Dirty: Platinum Edition as part of the NuHo Online Film Festival. However, as Rolling Stone reports, things did not go as planned. After attendees were treated to a Q&A featuring Cappadonna and Popa Wu (not Masta Killa and U-God as previously advertised), it was announced that the film couldn't be shown due to a cease and desist order.

NuHo managing partner Chris Kanik implied that the film wouldn't be shown at the request of "the ex-wife," possibly talking about ODB's widow Icelene Jones.

There were also several failed attempts to contact RZA via Skype, and when he finally appeared on screen, he said, "I know you just all watched all the film." Kanik then explained what happened, which prompted RZA to rant about copyright law. He also reiterated that Raekwon's lack of involvement is holding up the next Wu-Tang album.

Here's a promo for the event:

You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
