In October, Damon Albarn spearheaded a week-long trip to Mali by a group of musicians including Brian Eno, Yeah Yeah Yeahs' Nick Zinner, members of Metronomy and Django Django, Holy Other, Lil Silva, Cid Rim, Two Inch Punch, and more. There, they collaborated with Malian musicians. The result is an album called Africa Express Presents: Maison Des Jeunes, out digitally on December 9 via Transgressive. A physical edition will follow in 2014.

Below, check out a video for "Soubour" by Malian band Songhoy Blues in collaboration with Zinner.

The record is a continuation of Albarn's Africa Express project, where western and African artists collaborate. (Last year it resulted in a train tour across the UK). It was recorded in a temporary studio set up in a city youth club called Maison Des Jeunes.

There will be an album launch event on December 9 at London's Oval Space, which will feature the debut UK performances by Songhoy Blues and Kankou Kouyaté, plus Ghostpoet, Metrononmy's Olugbenga Adelekan, and Django Django's David Maclean. It'll also feature the UK premiere of the documentary on the 2012 Africa Express train tour.

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
