Swearin' Announce New Album, Surfing Strange

Swearin': "Watered Down" on SoundCloud.

Update: The title is Surfing Strange, not Strange Surfing.

Philadelphia band Swearin' have announced the full-length followup to last year's excellent self-titled debutSurfing Strange is out November 5 through Salinas Records, the Detroit punk label behind Swearin' and records from singer/guitarist Allison Crutchfield's old band P.S. Eliot. The new album will also be out via Wichita in the UK. Listen to "Watered Down" above.

Once again, songwriting duties are split between Crutchfield and singer/guitarist Kyle Gilbride, with Jeff Bolt on drums and Keith Spencer (also of Waxahatchee) on bass. According to a press release, the album is a bit heavier than Swearin'.

This month, Swearin' will also contribute to a Guided By Voices covers 7" from Salinas. It's a four-way  split and also features covers by Screaming Females, Waxahatchee (aka Katie Crutchfield, Allison's sister), and Upset (the new band of Ali Koehler and Patty Schemel).

After the tracklist, watch Swearin' play "Movie Star" at a house show last summer.

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
