Clarinet celebrity, Luigi Magistrelli, accompanied at the piano by Claudia Bracco, will be performing at the Manoel Theatre on Tuesday, October 19th, in a recital of predominantly Italian operatic favourites transcribed for the two instruments. Held in collaboration with the Istituto Italiano di Cultura, the recital will feature pieces by Sciroli, Bruck, Verdi, Rossini, Bellini and Camilleri.

Professor of clarinet at the Conservatory of Milan, Magistrelli is a brilliantly versatile performer who has exhibited his prowess as soloist with renowned Italian orchestras, as well as with several chamber groups in the principal Italian theatres, as well as all over Europe, in Africa, India, the U.S.A., China and Japan. He has recorded extensively, including previously unknown works for clarinet, for leading companies.

Claudia Bracco is a fine accompanist, who has won 49 competitions, securing no less than sixteen first prizes. She has performed as soloist and accompanist throughout the foremost theatres in Italy, collaborating with musicians of the highest caliber.

The operatic Fantasies which dominate the programme reflect a practice largely in vogue during the 'bel canto' period in Italy of arranging operatic arias enjoying most popularity for various wind and string instruments. The clarinet brought a wide range of these arias to the attention of the public. Luigi Magistrelli and Claudia Bracco will be bringing some of the loveliest of these to our attention by dedicating the second half of their recital totally to them.

Reservations for the recital by Magistrelli/Bracco may be made from the Manoel Theatre Booking Office, tel. 21 246389, e-mail [email protected] and on-line www.teatrumanoel.com

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
