One stop for all DJs!

One stop for all DJs...as Gabri-L and Boyfunk claim it to be: "Defunked is not just a shop but an ever evolving idea which we intend to develop, a one stop shop where one could learn how to DJ, buy quality music and earn gigs from our DJ agency which will be kicked off in the following months and bringing some top international artists for local promoters. Along with this, producers can

finally get serious consideration for their productions."

Don't you think it's more than enough where clubbing record shops and especially DJ courses are concerned in the country?

Not at all, it's only two record shops that I'm aware of which stock records on a regular basis. Secondly and most importantly DJing should be affordable for everyone. In this way more people could engage this hobby and finally our club scene could evolve. This is why our DJ courses and records are the least expensive in the whole island. This is proven by the fact that in only 3 weeks

since our opening we already have 6 enthusiasts undergoing our courses.

How are you planning to release your own label and to represent around 17 German record labels as A&R representatives?

We are planning to release our own label during the winter but only on CD format for the time being. When it comes to the 17 German labels which we represent locally namely Hard Nation, Tenor, Caballero, Guarija & Upbeat, we already have sent a couple of demos but we intend to carry out a producer competition with Dansezee magazine for more material.

What do you think about the current party scene and how would you intend to influence the crowd with your methods?

The local club scene is getting bigger by the minute. For Defunked, quality is a priority...That is why we plan to get the biggest names in Malta, to give our contribution to the local club scene!

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
