Well it’s official, CableNut is the ONLY internet connection tweaking application that will allow you to optimize your internet connection with Windows XP SP2. SP2 makes numerous changes to your registry one of them is your TCP and AFD values, the ones that control your internet bandwidth. CableNut is the ONLY application that allows you to optimize your AFD (Ancillary Function Device – it acts as an entry point for Winsock functions to get to TCPIP.sys). For years the CableNut Team has been saying how important the AFD registry values are and how they help optimize your bandwidth but many others (DSLR cough, cough, wink, wink) have argued that they don’t effect anything.

With the release of Windows XP SP2 the updated TCP/IP stack now redirects to your AFD values in the registry. Try a TCP/IP Analyzer test or DSLR Tweak Test and see, it will show your RWIN (DefaultReceiveWindow) as the value you have in CableNut under DefaultReceiveWindow which is an AFD parameter. This shows how important it is to use CableNut so you can fully optimize connections bandwidth.

We, the CableNut Team, are proud to be the first to publicly announce this. We are still looking into what exact changes are made to the TCP/IP stack.

From what i've been reading, SP2 isn't playing nice with Corporate editions and "pirated" editions of XP, contrary to certain reports that claimed it would (which came after MS denied that).

But......................................................................there are a few.............ahem, versions of XP floating around out there...................that, um................have..............um SP2 integrated and "tamed".

But I wouldn't know for sure, because I never pirate software..................nope, never..................nope, nuh-uh.

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
