Free music downloads to cost

Music fans will be able to legally download songs for free in future but computers, Internet access, blank CDs and MP3 players may cost more to compensate artists, a Brisbane music conference heard yesterday.

One of the executives behind Kazaa file-sharing software, Kevin Burmeister, told QMusic's Big Sound conference that peer-to-peer software was an unstoppable force and major record labels and file-sharing companies would be forced to co-exist.

...I dont think the record companies see it that way

this article merely underlines a fact which is becoming more apparent by the day...that is, one way or the other consumers of music will be " forced " to subsidise (yes...that dreaded word) the music and recording industries and artists in all their many forms...if not by direct payment for these services then by cross -subsidies (ie, increased prices for technology used to view, listen to, play and record audio and visual media) attached at the other end.....ahhh yes....what was that again... " but what about freedom of choice " i hear you say...hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!!!!!!

      You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention. 
      But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
