Rumors Of Klite's Death Greatly Exaggerated?

I just peeked into the KLite forum and found people discussing a 2.6 version of KLite ... still in Beta testing. So, while the KLite site may not offer downloads of KLite anymore, it apparently hasn't stopped KLite development. I wonder how they plan to distribute it so people are sure they're getting a "genuine" KLite product?

Good news for some, bad news for others. According to a post yesterday on ZP, KLite RC4 (release candidate #4) is finished ... but still in Beta testing mode. The bad news for some (including me) is that WinXP/2000 is required to run it. So, I guess I'll have to run v2.4.3 until the wheels fall off ... or move on to greener P2P pastures that still support my OS. Sigh.

I dunno...the whole story got blown way way way out of proportion. On all the ZP forums it was like the world was ending and the apoclypse was here to stay just cause klite supposedly stopped. Get the hell over it. It doesn't seem like it stopped...and if it did...aw damn...you'll actually have to use a good p2p app...shit.

Well, 2.4.3 is still working. But Kazaa promises to make things more difficult in the future. But that's OK. I find myself drifting more and more over to the Filetopia network (CLICK HERE). It's pretty stable and usership has increased quite a bit since the RIAA started coming down on FastTrack. FWIW, Filetopia is located in Spain with some servers in Germany. And, there's always the OpenNap servers. They're a bit hard to get on ... but once you're connected, there's an incredible amount of stuff there.

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
