scopes trial

when I was a teenager I had to write a term paper in h.s., this was just in the midst of some turbulent times in the late 60's and early 70's. I had remembered a movie I had seen when I was younger yet, that really made an impression on me, "inherit the wind" written about the scopes trial or "monkey trial" as they used to call it. so I started my research and have been attached to the subject ever since. this week marks an anniversary for the scopes trial of 1925. it strikes me that we are in a similar period in american history now, whereas in 1925 the modernists were overtaking the traditionalists, today it seems the reverse is true. If you haven't seen the movie I've included a link, really brilliant acting by spencer tracey as clarence darrow, and frederic march as william jennings bryan, most of the script was taken directly from the transcript of the actual trial, great exchanges.

But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
