MAIN ROOM

Belgium party starters & pioneers of the mash-up scene 2MANYDJS lead the charge. Stephen and David Delwaele, AKA Soulwax, 2ManyDJs have a worldwide reputation as being two of the world’s hardest working musicians. Fifteen years on since the conception of their rock-electro group Soulwax, the Belgium brothers remain at the forefront of musical innovation. After the release of their revolutionary mixtape As Heard On Radio Soulwax Pt. 2 which featured everything from Salt 'N' Pepa's "Push It" cut up with the Stooges' "No Fun", to Destiny's Child's "Independent Woman" over 10cc's "Dreadlock Holiday", blending seamlessly into Dolly Parton's "Nine to Five" the duo’s popularity sky rocketed. 2MANYDJS are now a clubbing institution. David and Stephen Dewaele have built a reputation for big sets - big in size, sound and scale. This is their Gatecrasher Birmingham debut.

Joining 2MANYDJS are men of the moment, AN21 & Max Vangeli. Two of the fastest-rising names in dance music, AN21 and Max Vangeli, will return to Gatecrasher fresh from their for the “People of the Night” tour. The two shining stars of SIZE – the label juggernaut overseen by AN21’s big brother Steve Angello return to Gatecrasher on the biggest night of the year! The two DJ-producers have formed a strong alliance in recent times, with back-to-back sets at Sensation Amsterdam and the Swedish House Mafia’s Ibiza blowout Masquerade Motel in the last month alone. They also keep up a steady work-rate in the studio. People of the Night is the name of the pair’s hotter than hot club smash with Tiesto. And now it would seem the top echelon of stardom is in sight. Together with blockbuster house music producer and SHM member Steve Angello, who is overseeing their project, Max and AN21 will be releasing their first album through Interscope and Angello's Size Record.

2011 was one of the craziest years yet for the AN21. He was nominated as ‘Breakthrough DJ’ at the IDMAs (International Dance Music Awards) and was named as one of the ‘top 5 DJs to watch in 2011′ following the Top 100 DJ poll. 2011 saw him Ding in some of the best venues and festivals in the world including Pacha Ibiza, Ministry of Sound in London, Avalon in LA, Zouk in Singapore, Global Gathering and Mysteryland. His massive remix of Pendulum’s ‘The Island’ along with brother Steve Angello and Max Vangeli was named ‘Hottest track in the world’ by Radio One’s Zane Lowe and reached Number 3 in the global Beatport chart. Having mixed CD 2 of the successful ‘Size Matters’ album.

“One of the most promising artists for 2011″ as described by MTV, Max Vangeli has grabbed the attention of Electronic Music fans worldwide. With a debut album featuring collaborations with heavyweights Steve Angello and the UK’s Example amongst others 2011 was his biggest year to date. 2011 was a pivotal year for Max Vangeli as he made his international debut, with multiple chart-topping remixes and extensive touring across the world, as well as being named one of the ‘Top 5 DJs to watch in 2011′ following the Top 100 DJ poll. He has played at some of the world’s top venues and festivals, such as Cocoon in Frankfurt, Mansion in Miami, Avalon in Los Angeles, Creamfields in the UK, and Mysteryland in Amsterdam.

Completing the line up is world famous superstar DJ Eric Prydz, the producer behind chart topping hits "Call on me" and the Pink Floyd remix "Proper Education. Prydz is well known for commercial success, topping music and video charts across Europe, but lately he has become an underground star. Under his Pryda alias/label he releases one great track after another, including “Armed”, “RYMD”, “Muranyi”, and the latest track; “Balaton”, which have all found their way to the top of the Beatport charts. DJ’s across the board, from Tiesto to Roger Sanchez, have been dropping the Pryda tracks in their sets. 2011 also witnessed the launch of a new show concept from Eric Prydz placing electronic music back at the forefront of technological innovation. Utilising ground breaking new technology, Prydz’ ‘EPIC’ show smashed the boundaries of music and technology. For Eric Prydz, a bold musical agenda and an unrivalled ability to combine commercial success with underground notoriety has allowed him to achieve worldwide recognition with integrity. This is Prydz’s Gatecrasher Birmingham debut and promises to be spectacular!

GB catch up with Max Vangeli ahead of his set on NYE After 2 storming sets at GB this year, Max Vangeli alongside AN21 has firmly become one of the GB’s crowd favourites and we can’t wait to celebrate NYE alongside them, 2manydjs, Eric Prydz and loads more. We caught up with Max Vangeli ahead of his set to find out what to expect from him on NYE.

2011 was an amazing year for you both tell us about the highlights?

Max: This year was just on another level with all of the massive gigs we played. Some highlights would definitely be Pacha Ibiza, Sensation, Creamfields, and lots of amazing US gigs.

You had a full on touring schedule this year how on earth to you manage to get into the studio together?

Max: It was truly challenging but thanks to the internet we were able to bounce ideas back and forth and actually finish them on days off while being in the same cities.

Tell us about the debut album? When will it be released?

Max: The album is in its last stages. We have so much material that it is hard to pick the songs that are actually are going on it. Lots of surprises there and we already started playing out many of the tracks.

You've worked with Kim Fai, Steve Angello, Example and Tiesto?

Max: Yes, we were fortunate enough to work with all of the artists above. It's been quite a challenge since all of us are really busy but I think our fans will be happy with the outcome.

What are the stand out tracks on the album?

Max: We only showed off a couple tracks of the album so I can't go into much details. "People of the Night" ft Tiesto and "Whisper" ft Example are the two you might've heard on BBC Radio 1 or one of our live shows.

You're already getting lots of praise from People of the Night, with bug support from Radio 1 - how does that feel?

Max: It's quite surreal to be honest. We worked really hard on that record and I am very glad people are enjoying it!

You've achieved so much this year - what can we expect for 2012?

Max: 2012 will definitely top this year. We have so much in the works. You are gone have to wait and see!

What can we expect from your NYE set at Gatecrasher?

Max: A lot of new material from the album as well as some exclusive bootlegs and tracks from fellow Djs. It's going to be massively sexy!

Do you have any New Year's resolutions?

Max: This year has been truly amazing for me and so many things went right. I think just to continue doing what I've been doing and striving to do my best!

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
