ShowTime's 'The American Candidate'

Recommended Posts

AMERICAN CANDIDATE will attempt to identify one individual who has the qualifications and qualities to be President of the United States. This summer, AMERICAN CANDIDATE will debut with 12 contestants from all walks of life. Over the course of 10 weeks, those 12 will face-off against each other in a series of challenges designed to test their presidential mettle and to show viewers what really goes on in the making of a presidential candidate. Week-by-week, the original pool of candidates will be winnowed down. The final episode will be a showdown between the remaining two candidates, and one person will emerge victorious -- the "American Candidate."

Probably a plot by the conservative Fox Network to start a write-in vote compaign and take them away from Kerry... Actually, this is a pretty bizarre idea..

Actually is gonna be on Show-time, which I think is pretty liberal since they have a couple gay oriented shows running and they did show the contravertial Reagan biography movie which CBS dropped.

It sounds like the winner gets some money and a platform but like American Idol winners there is no guarantee they'll actually make it a successful candidate in the real world.

FAQ:

What is AMERICAN CANDIDATE about?

AMERICAN CANDIDATE is a ground-breaking television series in which the American people will identify a People's Candidate that they would like to see run for President of the United States.

When and where will AMERICAN CANDIDATE air?

The show will premiere in early August 2004 on Showtime and run for 10 episodes, through October 2004.

How will the show work?

Over the course of the series, a minimum of twelve candidates will face-off against each other in a series of challenges designed to test their presidential mettle and to show viewers what really goes on in the making of a presidential candidate. Week-by-week, the original pool of candidates will be winnowed down. The winner gets $200,000 and a nationwide media appearance after the show so the "American Candidate" can make his or her address to the nation.

  • 2 weeks later...

... well, didn't know where to stick this ... doesn't really have to do with politics, or "the American candidate" per se (ooh, tis a quandary :o ), ... but i guess it does have to do with an American candidate ... soooooooo ... the last time kerry ran for president, he was interviewed on a local tv show with his wife ... kind of a personal interview ... in it he shared a poem that he said he recited to his wife when he proposed ... i sure would love to know the name of the poem ... so maybe, in your surfin' the net-waves, you could be on the look-see for it??? i can't even remember anything about it now, but just that, at the time, i liked it ...

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
