After an absolutely storming christmas party at East Village in December, the Lot49 crew decided they enjoyed it so much that they would take up a bi-monthly residency there! Gving the London based tech-funk label the chance to showcase the sounds that flick their switch on a regular basis in the heart of Old Street was too good to turn down, and so the new night is called, simply, Lot49, and they kick off 2009 with a tasty Valentine's line up for singletons and loved-up couples alike!

Newly installed residents Meat Katie, Dylan Rhymes and Kid Blue will be joined by Belfast's Phil Kieran, who enjoyed great success with his 'Skyhook' and 'I Think I'm A Monster singles' on Novamute and Cocoon respectively last year. 2009 sees the release of follow-up 'Missp' on Cocoon, alongside remixes of UNKLE and Roel H and more solo releases on his new imprint Flying Cabbage. Phil is a long time-friend of the label so it's great to be able to have him guesting at the first event of the year.

Lot49's Vandal returns after rocking the the christmas party, fresh on a wave of critical and popular acclaim for his 'Captain Magic' single which found fans across the board. He's joined by rising electro star Sharooz, whose recent 'Get Off' stormed the top 10 on Beatport, alongside Passion FM's Caninesounds and Babyshake resident Duncan K.

With quality guests coming up throughout the year alongside a prestige roster of residents, this looks like being one of the best additions to London's club scene in 2009.

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
