  1. Outsider "Outsider E.P" - first single in over a decade!! In the mid nineties the Junior Boys own label was at the peak of its powers, releasing music from Underworld, the Chemical Brothers and X-Press 2 and amongst this triumvirate of soon to be pop stars came some of the best underground techno & house music of the decade from the duo of Marvin Beaver and Justin Drake setting forth under the moniker Outsider. Fast forward almost a decade and a half and both Beaver and Drake look back on considerable successes under the banners of Dylan Rhymes and Peace Division respectively. However it seems for Beaver at least there is some unfinished business here, and so he has decided to take matters into his own hands, saying farewell to Justin Drake and setting out on his own! After lying dormant through the change of millennia and beyond it's now time for Outsider to rise from the still warm ashes of it's distant past to once again set alight the dancefloors of the present. The eponymously titled 'Outsider EP' is built around 3 brand new cuts from the now solo Outsider production unit. First of these is 'Tapped Up', a tough and rollin' slice of techno with strength and stamina of a pile driver! Straight for the jugular percussion and a filtered drop that pushes the intensity through the roof lend this an edge that is sure to make it a peak time killer. Next up we have romantically titled 'Baby', a deep and delicious slab of percussive tech house with a bassline that drives this superb record close to the edge of audio insanity. Once again this is an intense and engaging cut that is a surefire winner. Finally we have 'Slit' a deep and hypnotic closer that goes further underground than it's bedfellows and hits a seam of purest gold; quality from start to finish. Outsider is back, and despite the reduction in personnel the sound is as superb as ever - let's hope we don't have to wait another fifteen years for the next instalment! 3. Hi Guys I've recently been working on a new mix that is being distributed around Bristol shops by a blog called BYTE. 4. LEE COOMBS: DETOX & REMIXES Hot on the heels of his Light & Dark album which has been yet another highlight of a superb career, Florida-based Lee Coombs and Lot49 deliver the DETOX package featuring remixes from Meat Katie, Trent Cantrelle, Access Denied and Burufunk. Detox, the second track on Light & Dark, is a no holds barred monster of a dancefloor cut and is a powerful example of tech-funk at its best. As you’d expect with Coombs, pounding kicks, visceral acid lines and unnerving vocal samples all vie for attention but it’s the huge, hip-hop drop in Detox which pushes it into the stratosphere. As always with the Lot49 crew, thereâ?Ts been little scrimping on the remixes too. Mark Meat Katie Pember takes a break from an incessant DJ schedule and Lot49 A&Ring to deliver yet another standout remix in his catalogue of standout remixes! His interpretation evolves from a 1 note hat and snare loop into an ’is it house, is it breaks?’ tech-funker he’s renowned for. A tweaky, sliding b-line with a warped key shift does all the work while heavy snares, synth percussion and the original’s vox samples create a dense soundscape. Vintage stuff.. Trent Cantrelle is up next and shows exactly why he’s established himself through remixes for the likes of Subliminal, Little Mountain and Renaissance over the years. Filtered FM stabs, acid licks and beats and bass are all Cantrelle needs to push Detox further into anthem territory â?" and that’s exactly what he does. Penultimately, Russian breakbeat upstarts Access Denied deliver one of the freshest examples of the genre this year with a snarling yet melody flecked rub with an emphasis on groove. Things are only just kicking off for these guys and if this is anything to go on, it’d be foolish not to keep an eye on them. Last, but certainly not least, is Burufunk who take the breaks batton from Access Denied and run with it, injecting some saw-tooth funk into proceedings and squeezing every last drop out of the track with a nifty tempo-adjusted breakdown. 7. more blurb for you all Lee Coombs is a man who needs little introduction, a constant name and face on the dance music landscape since the mid-1990s he has played a major part in charting the ever changing course of electronic music. Now he gives us an insight into his sound of 2009 with this his latest opus in the form of third artist album Light and Dark. Listen to "Light & Dark" here now Coombs musical history can’t easily be scribed in a few lines; his journey as a DJ stretches back to the late 80s and the early days of acid house, his recording career encompasses his work for classic imprint Finger Lickin Records as well as Adrift and Lot49, not to mention of course his own Thrust Recordings which he ran for nearly a decade. He has put his name to mix compilations for the likes of Paul Oakenfold’s Perfecto and remixed the likes of Moby, New Order, Lamb and Planet Funk. Coombs has travelled the world in the pursuit of his passion for music and has never the lost the enthusiasm for making great records and tearing up dancefloors Light and Dark is in Coombs own words "a true tech funk album", an amalgam of sounds and influences from dance musics often disparate scenes. Alongside Lot49 crew Meat Katie, Dylan Rhymes and Elite Force, Coombs has pioneered this open minded attitude and helped forge the sound of tech funk, a fusion of techno, breaks, house and electro. On this long player Coombs takes the tech funk spirit and develops it to the n’th degree, it is a true melting pot of influences, from the opening bars of the Diva driven Control with the wonderful Katherine Ellis to the final refrain of the heavily Echo & the Bunnymen inspired Blues I’m Singing. Collaborations with the highly talented and spiritually inspired Seasunz rub shoulders with the massive Uberzone joint production Right Now whilst the siren drenched sounds of Detox and the squelching warehouse intensity of Moog Acid all add up to make this a pretty special album indeed. This is not an album for those who want an LP that stays in a single static vein from beginning to end. Rather this is an album that is a true celebration of electronic music and everything that it has to offer, Coombs has been bold enough to dip his musical wand into a variety of styles (see the Leftfield-esque I’m a Machine or the superb Italo Disco) and has pulled off each record with aplomb. His immense experience and ability as a producer have allowed him to take 11 very different aural shards and draw them in an incredibly accomplished final piece that makes for truly great listening. There will always be a place for Lee Coombs in the dance music landscape and this, his latest offering shows once again why he is held in such high regard. "seasunz tune is dope...... Lee’s back" Freqnasty "Great - its phat wicked" Annie Nightingale "Absolutely love this" Kim Fai "The wait is over! Lee has created a monster! Spot on production and a collection of worthy forward moving tracks that remind me of why I love electronic music!! Well done Lee!" Scott Kirkland - The Crystal Method "A stalwart of the UK breaks scene for over a decade Lee Coombs is moving on with the times without losing his identity" M8 Magazine "The trademark Tech Funk sound is alive and kicking... there isn’t a bum track on here" Tilllate Magazine "Coombs puts both a fresh twist and his own stamp on past influences" DJ Mag "An excellent effort featuring some cool collaborations" Datatransmission OUT NOW on Beatport OUT NOW at special price from Chemical Records Album out on general digital release by October 23rd - grab it from your favourite store then! 8. LEE COOMB'S ALBUM LIGHT & DARK So i guess you lot have gathered that we have Lee Coombs's album "Light & Dark" about to drop on the 19th October?!! So what are you likely to expect from this, his first album release in 5 years? Well in "Light&Dark" Coombs has been bold enough to dip his musical wand into a variety of styles (such as the Leftfield-esque ‘I’m a Machine’ or the superb ‘Italo Disco’) and has pulled off each record with aplomb. 11. 'ello again :: LOT49 AUGUST NEWSLETTER :: Dylan Rhymes feat. Pablo Decoder "KEMPTOWN" - available from Beatport exclusively NOW!! Kemptown is a full blooded, roof raising slice of electro tech madness with the trademark Dylan Rhymes production providing the perfect base for Decoders off the hook vocals. Distorted, twisted synths mesh with a solid rhythm track and driving percussion to create and energy filled vortex of a record that draws in all in it’s path. *CHECK THE KEMPTOWN PROMOTIONAL ANIMATION NOW** AND CHECK HOW THIS MASSIVE TRACK MIGHT SOUND ON YOUR DANCEFLOOR HERE Alongside the original version, there is a dub for those that prefer things vocal free, and then there are the remixes.... First in the saddle is fellow tech funk legend and co-label owner Mark Pember AKA Meat Katie who strips things back and turns in a searing slab of techno in his own inimitable style. Bringing the vocal to the fore over sparse sections of the back tracking before cutting in with an intense barrage of rough riffs this mix is bound to create dancefloor devastation wherever it’s dropped. Next up we have Barcelona based DJ /Producer Memo. A regular fixture on the Spanish festival scene he found himself playing alongside Dylan Rhymes some years ago and now joins the Lot49 team to provide this full bore cut and paste re-edit that is a superb addition to the package. The penultimate mix comes from London Swede Peo de Pitte who chops into the original and creates a bouncing groove laden version that is sure to please breaks and house heads alike. Finally we have awesome Sharooz who shows that he more than lives up to the hype with this outstanding production. A great mix that draws out the parts into seven minutes of wonderfully atmospheric electro tinged house. AVAILABLE TO BUY ON BEATPORT NOW KID BLUE "SPEAK FREAK E.P" on General Release NOW!! DJ Mag Review : 4.5/5 Kid Blue certainly knows what works at screwed o’clock. The tech-funk title track teases out just enough techy sounds breaking through a hazin’ and phasin’ rubbery electronic wall of sound fuzz. 13. oh my giddy aunt!! it's July already!! LOT49 NEWS: JULY KID BLUE "SPEAK FREAK E.P" - available from Beatport exclusively NOW!! The ‘Speak Freak EP’ is a collection of rock solid house/techno hybrid cuts that perfectly reflect where Kid Blue is coming from as an artist. Lead cut ‘Speak Freak’ takes the sentiments of big bass driven fidget house and gives it a rough techno edge, a perfect track to test any soundsystems limits and one that is bound to find favour across the board this summer. ‘Speak Freak’ is closely followed by the quality sounds of ‘Pentatonik’, a slice of superbly crafted tech house that hits all the right buttons. Finally we have ‘Soul Inside’ a track described by Kid Blue himself as “an electro-techno roller with the kind of blippy melodies that I love to play in my sets”. This is a real corker of a cut with an intense vibe that makes for a real hypnotic listening experience, an electro-techno roller indeed! "Speak Freak is on the money" Plump DJ's * BUY IT NOW from BEATPORT LEE COOMBS AND UBERZONE "RIGHT NOW" WITH DOPAMINE REMIX Our latest release sees Florida based London legend Lee Coombs team up with uber-talented LA producer Uberzone to create the massive cut ’Right Now’. ’Right Now’ is a slice of tech inspired, glitchy house with plenty of attitude. Chopped and spliced vocal samples sit over a tough, distorted backing, creating a tight groove that gives way to some classic old school rave synths that transport you straight back to 1991. It’s a big, bold record from two producers who know exactly how to get a dancefloor moving. The remix comes from the ever popular Dopamine who reworks the parts to create a stripped, minimal vibe with a bouncing bassline that makes this an instantly hooky affair. The arrangement builds to a larger than life drop of electro FX vocals before kicking back into that tight and tough groove. This is a wonderful alternative to excellent original and is yet another notch on the well scored belt of Matt ’Dopamine’ Goddard. This single is a taster from the forthcoming Lee Coombs album, his first solo long player in 5 years and if this is anything to go by we have a real treat in store. 18. heyloooooo...here's the latest stuff an' ting! :: LOT 49 NEWSLETTER: May 2009 :: LOT49046 : MEAT KATIE & DYLAN RHYMES E.P Label bosses Mark Pember and Marvin Beaver join forces to produce this eponymously titled EP, their first full collaborative single since the release of 2002’s ‘Moist’ on the seminal Whole Nine Yards imprint. ‘Roll Player’, the first of the two original cuts that feature on the release, is a piece of superb bass driven techno. Tight drums and off kilter electronic riffs produce a hypnotic effect and the simple but highly effective arrangement draws you deeper down the rabbit hole with every bar. The original also comes with a big and bold breaks remix from production duo Specimen A, who ramp up the volume and press home with distorted synth lines and swirling FX. Epic stuff. Second of the MK and DR originals comes in the shape of ‘Long Acre’, a pulsating and techy cut built around a tough repetitive groove. Its attention grabbing main riff is ballsy enough get any dancefloor moving yet the track retains a deep and underground vibe from beginning to end. This is a brilliant piece of techno from these two musical heavyweights. The remixes for ‘Long Player’ are provided by Mike Hulme of Introspective fame, who delivers a great piece of pacey Moroder-esque warehouse techno and Dylan Rhymes who gets to grips with his own creation, turning in an excellent re-edit that stays true to the original. Carl Cox “Another good release here from Lot49. Mike Hulme’s remix of Long Acre is the winner here. Like the original of Roll Player too.” Laurent Garnier “good pumping tunes for kicking the shit out of the crowd, this works for me” Available now exclusively on Beatport for 2 weeks LOT49047: PABLO DECODER E.P Following on from recent successes with Dopamine, Dylan Rhymes and James Cocozza we saw fit to unleash this outstanding E.P from the much lauded Pablo Decoder. The EP features 3 original cuts from Decoder of superb glitchy techno and tech house. The first of these is ‘High Bolt’, an intense bumpin house cut with syncopated synth lines and tough electronic edge. The warm rolling bassline holds the whole thing together perfectly, creating a track that is bound to set dancefloors alight. Following on from ‘High Bolt’ we have the no nonsense techno stylings of ‘Turbo’, a cut that certainly manages to live up to its name. Throbbing bass and pounding drums lay the groundwork for a twisted full frontal assault of edgy twisted riffs and an arrangement full of brilliantly executed drops and lifts. Last but not least ‘Zurich Boys’ - a ballsy record that marries techno sounds with electro sensibilities to excellent effect. This is a great track and a superb partner for the proceeding 2 cuts. 21. greetings, here's all the latest on LOT49!! enjoy!! :: LOT 49 NEWSLETTER: March 2009 :: LOT49 @ East Village - Valentines Party Many thanks to all you lovely people that, without remorse, decided to lose the plot with the tech-funkers instead of a romantic night in - another absolutely cracking party We will be back in London same time, same place on 11th April AND we will also be launching a Lot49 residency in Bristol on the 17th April - more details to follow....... DOPAMINE & FRIENDS Dopamine AKA Matt Goddard has long been held in high regard by DJs, producers and fans electronic music, with a string of sterling releases for landmark labels such as TCR, Passenger and Title Fight. His sound has over the years mutated and evolved leading him from a history rooted in breakbeat to the glitchy fidget house and tech funk that we have on this outstanding EP. This is Goddard’s first outing with us and takes the form of an EP featuring both solo and collaborative material. First up we have the delicately titled ‘Spunk’, which despite its unsavoury name is a brilliant piece of bouncing, fidget house with a rolling b-line, cut and paste funk samples and glitchy tech riffs. This is a guaranteed dancefloor destroyer that rides perfectly the line between underground sensibilities and peak time attitude. Next we see the lead cut get the remix treatment from Lot49 stalwart Vandal, who is currently riding high on the success of his ‘Captain Magic’ single. Here he takes the parts and moulds things in to an intense 4/4 killer with a big party atmosphere. Excellent stuff. The first of the two collaborations sees Dopamine team up with James Cocozza to create ‘Bogun’ a superb piece of electro house with a monster of a breakdown and layers of roof raising tough synth lines. Closing the package we see Goddard team up with Meat Katie to produce a deep and rolling cut entitled ‘Nectar’. This is a simple and fairly stripped affair compared to the rest of the EP, but it works beautifully. Off key sythns give a haunting vibe to the hypnotic and relentless groove whilst tight shuffling drums and percussion provide a perfect undercarriage to this excellent rework. As always a real cross section of dj support coming from the likes of Wally Lopez, Malente, Elite Force, Utah saints, Dj Vibe, Sonny wharton, Plump Dj's, Mark Dynamix, Luke Dzierek, Freqnasty......... Dopamine Myspace here DYLAN RHYMES "BLUE BLACK : 2000-2004 - REMASTERED" This package is a retrospective album we have put together using material from Lot49 co-owner Dylan Rhymes' days on his own Blue Black label. As this is a re-issue we thought it was probably worth a re-master too and we are happy to announce that these tracks sound as fresh now as the day they were bounced!! Im sure you will agree these tracks have stood the test of time - classic "Rhymes" heavy bassline house with slamming techno overtones, blistering remixes by the likes of Phil Kieran and Elite Force and also featured on this package are the first of his collaborative tracks with label co-owner Meat Katie. This coincides nicely with upcoming new material from the label heads which, as you would expect from this pair, are dark twisted late night affairs of the highest order (some people just never change!!) :) Tracklisting: Dylan Rhymes & Meat Katie 'Body Shock' Dylan Rhymes 'Compression Chamber' Dylan Rhymes 'Ilinoise' Dylan Rhymes 'Listen' (Dylan Rhymes & Meat Katie Tech Remix) Dylan Rhymes 'Muji ' Dylan Rhymes 'On The Dancefloor' (Cable Guy remix) Dylan Rhymes 'On The Dancefloor' (Duncan Grey remix) Dylan Rhymes 'On The Dancefloor' (Elite Force remix) Dylan Rhymes 'On The Dancefloor' (Phil Kieran remix) Dylan Rhymes 'Panic Button' Dylan Rhymes & Meat Katie '3 Penny Touch' (Jel Ford remix) Dylan Rhymes & Meat Katie '3 Penny Touch' (original mix) Dylan Rhymes 'Revolver' Dylan Rhymes 'Society' (The System) Dylan Rhymes 'Thunderdub' This is AVAILABLE NOW from beatport LOT49 LABEL LINKS Youtube Channel New channel on youtube dedicated to the worldwide antics of the Lot49 crew here Soundcloud This best way for you to send us tracks for consideration and keep up to date with the latest Lot49 output here Facebook Group If you're on Facebook you can keep up to date with all Lot49 artist news, releases and events here Myspace page For all your myspacians out there - link with us here **All Lot49 releases are available from: www.beatport.com www.juno.co.uk www.chemical-records.co.uk Label Contact: [email protected] Label Manager: [email protected] Press/Promotion/Radio: [email protected] // [email protected]
  22. Vandal 'Captain Magic' For anyone that's been living under a stone, our boy Vandal is back. 'Captain Magic' his fourth single on Lot 49 is now available through all good digital portals. Famed for his no nonsense approach to the beats and breaks, he continues to impress by showing how diverse the breakbeat scene can be by delivering two versions - the Filth and Clean mixes, proving that he really is a cut above the rest. Vandal has also been a magnet for world class "up and coming" remixers (Audiofly, Dexter, Audiojack) and he continues down that path on this package with two seriously heavy remixes courtesy of San Franciscos's wonky house merchant 'Worthy' (from The Dirtybird Soundsystem) and a brand new name to remember 'Rudi Stakker' (aka Will Bailey from Twocker) who's remix has been causing an absolute storm - even prompting these remarks from guys who really know what they are talking about..... Carl Cox "Love the Rudi Stakker" Laurent Garnier "Rudi's mix is BIIIIG - this is a BIIIIG record" Now those are recommendations worth following...! BUY NOW from beatport 'Captain Magic' Music Video Click here to see Sam's alter ego (Captain Magic) doing over time - we warn you in advance, its not a pretty sight!
