Pink Floyd Founder Richard Wright, R.I.P.

Sad news out of the UK. The keyboard player and co-founder of Pink Floyd has passed away due to cancer. Wright wrote several songs on "Dark Side of the Moon - The Great Gig In The Sky and Us And Them."

The BBC obtained a tribute quote from David Gilmour: "He was such a lovely, gentle, genuine man and will be missed terribly by so many who loved him."

Hadn't heard or read any news today so it's a bit of a sad way to end the day. Seemed like a nice person from any interviews I've seen of him. I liked his solo stuff too. Talented man.

In July 2005, Wright, Waters, Mason and Gilmour reunited to perform at the "Live 8" charity concert in London — the first time in 25 years they had been onstage together.

Gilmour paid tribute to Wright on Monday, saying his input was often forgotten.

"He was gentle, unassuming and private but his soulful voice and playing were vital, magical components of our most recognized Pink Floyd sound," he said. "I have never played with anyone quite like him."

      You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention. 
      But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
