Wassup For The Weekend 8/015-17/08

Other than pigging out at a Chinese buffet last night, this is a pretty quiet weekend for me. I'm still without a car until Monday ... but as you can see, they've made some great progress on it. Otherwise, I'm watching the Olympics, doing some reading, a little posting, and not much else. A friend recently gave me a new tennis racquet, and I've restrung my old one, but no one is available this weekend to play

I'm taking some friends to The Hotel Cafe on Tuesday Night to see Doveman, Sam Amidon and Nico Muhly, who are performing solo and together - should be fun.

Whataboutyou?

Heard some great things about the Hotel Cafe - Tom McRae has done some great stuff with them and he's doing tours with them over in the UK. Must check some of the stuff out on their MySpace.

This time next week we'll be gearing up for REM and Elbow! Can't wait - I am somewhat excited!

Today it's big tidy Sunday. Meh!

Chinese buffet! Elbow! I'm jealous.

Went to Red Dragon on Friday, then CC Club... both are total dive bars in Minneapolis. Had a ton of fun though with people I hadn't seen in years.

After only getting 4 hours of sleep Friday night, I slept off and on Saturday afternoon. Then I went to Swing Vote, and fell asleep watching Juno. Very low-key and exactly what I needed.

Today I've played a ton of Mario Kart, and am now starting on weekend chores. :(

Sounds like a challenge.

According to Benz travel, I can get there from Bristol tomorrow for a mere £408 return - which isn't bad for half way around the world and back!

Sadly I need to work :(

I found a player for today - these are my weapons:

Wilson K Blade 98 Tour

Wilson St. Vincent Pro-Staff - the latter was Pete Sampras's racquet and I've had it for years

:rocket:

Why is your travel so expensive?

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
