So... what are you getting for your mom's this weekend. If you forgot, don't fret, here are some last minute tips from Ask Metafilter and Techshout

And one of our partners at EMusic did us one better this year - they asked about a dozen indie stars' (Beirut, Bon Iver, etc) moms what their favorite offspring's songs were:

"Most indie bands routinely name-check favorite artists and influential albums, but there's a whole group of people who often don't get the credit they deserve: the moms. They're the ones who hear all the demos, the revisions and the non-starters."

In honor of Mother's Day, Arizona Republic has put together a Hotlist of

Moms that rock harder than yours

"It's mother's day weekend, a time to reflect on great moments in mothering history and give thanks to the women whose tireless efforts made us who we are today.

"...What concerns us here is more the way these particular mothers continued to rock. Through the tantrums and 3 three A.M. feedings and wondering if maybe disposable diapers were the way to go, they brought the rock for us in ways our own moms couldn't.

We salute you, moms of rock for proving that life doesn't end at conception."

I was at the UCLA Chancellor's Coronation today and was really impressed with the music, which included presentations by Brazilian, Chinese, Balinese, and African students - world music from the school which brought you the Doors.

a short excerpt showcases the Brazilian group below

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
