At least 337 people were killed by rebels last month in what is being called Uganda's worst massacre for years. The death toll was announced by the United Nations Children's Fund yesterday. However, investigations are pointing to a larger figure.

There is controversy surrounding the massacre, which occurred on the 21st of February, with the Ugandan government placing fatalities at 84 people. However, local officials say that over 230 people were murdered.

UNICEF official Rebecca Symington said: "District officials in Lira's planning department are now pretty confident that 337 people were killed, including those killed in the camp and those abducted and later killed in surrounding areas."

This is the sort of stuff in which the world community (if you believe it exists) should take an active role. Talk it over at the U.N., decide on a course, follow it.

This type of stuff makes me realize how messed up our government really is... it scares the shit out of me... what's even crazier is how many people believe their government's policies/actions are "right".

Good point. It sucks. But why is it in order for peace that more blood shed usually has to take place? It just doesn't make sense. It's a cycle that is destined to stay on repeat unless we figure out what's going wrong.

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
