Here's a good article that looks at some of the hot rock bands coming out of Nashville ...

By now it’s become a cliché to point out that there’s more to Nashville music than country. But 2008 may end up being the most fitting time to trumpet the city’s breadth—a varied, busy crew of Nashville rock and pop acts are preparing to release major-label LPs in tandem, and they all threaten to be thrilling sonic arguments for the strength of Nashville as a rock epicenter. Here’s a rundown of a few of the most promising:

BAND: De Novo Dahl

PLAYERS: Joel J. Dahl, vocals, guitar; Serai Zaffiro, omnichord, vocals, percussion; Keith Lowen, bass, vocals; Moose Hungate, keys, vocals; Mixta Huxtable, drums.

GUITARS: Frontman Joel J. Dahl plays a Gibson SG.

SOUNDS LIKE: Colorful, adventurous power-pop.

WHAT TO BUY: The band’s recent introductory Roadrunner Records release, the Shout EP, shows the direction De Novo Dahl has been headed in: After losing half the band and pulling in replacements, they refocused toward a bright, taut, and jittery power-pop sound that’s bubblegum-fun, but keeps a rock and roll attack. Their previous LP, Cats & Kittens, shows more of the band’s feverish adventurousness ........................................

cool stuff but no, Nashville is not the new rock and roll capital of the world

in some ways it is. when commercial rock died, old school moved to Nashville

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
      You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention. 
      But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
