Scientists Claim They Have Broken The Speed Of Light

I already knew this yesterday

A pair of German physicists claim to have broken the speed of light - an achievement that would undermine our entire understanding of space and time.

According to Einstein's special theory of relativity, it would require an infinite amount of energy to propel an object at more than 186,000 miles per second.

However, Dr Gunter Nimtz and Dr Alfons Stahlhofen, of the University of Koblenz, say they may have breached a key tenet of that theory.

The pair say they have conducted an experiment in which microwave photons - energetic packets of light - travelled "instantaneously" between a pair of prisms that had been moved up to 3ft apart.

Being able to travel faster than the speed of light would lead to a wide variety of bizarre consequences. For instance, an astronaut moving faster than it would theoretically arrive at a destination before leaving.

so does that mean you can be two places at once without anybody noticing?

no, because youve already been there and back

..Dr Nimtz told New Scientist magazine: "For the time being, this is the only violation of special relativity that I know of."

I replied before the thread was created, but that was too embarrassing to Dude since he had yet to post the story, so he deleted it.

The title was "Dude's Gonna Post a Speed of Light Thread and We're All Gonna Be Silly In It."

Einstein made some bold statements/discoveries, but I think he IS mistaken when it comes to what is required to go beyond the speed of light. Truly there has to be something that exists that already moves faster, we just haven't discovered it or created a machine which would detect/measure something moving beyond the speed of light.

Just because Einstein could not fathom/imagine an object moving faster than light, does not mean it automatically requires an infinite amount of energy. It just needs a little bit more to go 186,001 mps.

What he's basically saying is the speed of light is exactly one factor short of requiring infinite energy.

That's just silly.

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
