ATLANTA, July 19 (Reuters) - Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick on Thursday faced fallout from his indictment in a dog-fighting ring from sponsors, animal activists and some disillusioned fans.

Nike said it was suspending the release of a new Michael Vick shoe due to hit stores in August, and animal rights advocates PETA said they would picket National Football League headquarters to demand that Vick be suspended.

The 27-year-old Vick, a three-time Pro Bowl selection, was indicted on Tuesday by a federal grand jury in Richmond, Virginia, along with three other men on charges of operating an illegal dog-fighting ring.

HANGING, ELECTROCUTION

The indictment said dogs sometimes fought to the death on Vick's property and some fight losers had been put to death by drowning, hanging, gunshots and electrocution. It also charged Vick and his associates shot dogs that did not pass muster after tests of their fighting ability.

Vick told to stay out of training camp

NEW YORK - Michael Vick was ordered by commissioner Roger Goodell on Monday to stay away from the Atlanta Falcons' training camp until the league reviews the dogfighting charges against him.

"While it is for the criminal justice system to determine your guilt or innocence, it is my responsibility as commissioner of the National Football League to determine whether your conduct, even if not criminal, nonetheless violated league policies, including the Personal Conduct Policy," Goodell said in a letter to the quarterback.

Vick has all this talent and it's going to waste.

He never lived up to his potential in the NFL

and his actions outside the NFL have tainted his

name beyond repair. As a former fan (VA Tech days)

its pains me to say it, but good riddance!!

He needs to be banned from the NFL and he

need to do like his brother and do a little jail time

for being an idiot.

Just my thoughts-

Matt

Michael Vicks Pleads Innocence

Michael Vick, the starting quarterback for the Atlanta Falcons, pleaded not guilty in federal court in Richmond, Va., today to charges that he was involved in a dog fighting conspiracy on property he owns in rural Surry County.

U.S. Magistrate Dennis W. Dohnal released Mr. Vick and three other defendants without bond, according to the Associated Press, and said the principle that a defendant is innocent until proven guilty should prevail, "no matter how heinous the allegations may be."

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
