MPAA Sues Showstash.com

Recommended Posts

Slyck reports:

"Last month, the MPAA (Motion Picture Association of America) announced they were suing two video streaming sites, YouTVpc.com and Peekvid.com. Although these sites don't actually host the infringing material in question, they do index and stream content from servers around the world. This was enough to be considered a haven for copyright infringement, as it appears another site, ShowStash.com, has earned a similar reputation from the MPAA.

Today, the MPAA announced a new lawsuit against ShowStash.com, which functions much in the same way as YouTVpc.com and Peekvid.com. The site is categorized into four major genres; Television, Cartoons, Anime, and Movies. Popular entertainment such as CSI, House, Heroes, Aqua Teen Hunger Force, and Bridge to Terabithia are readily available.

Unlike the previous two lawsuit recipients, ShowStash.com doesn't appear to have theatrically released movies. There are newer movies available, however the most recent releases are at least several months old. However the bottom line, according to the MPAA, is that ShowStash.com is just as illegal as YouTVpc.com and Peekvid.com."

But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
