Arthur Russell - Loose Joints Tell You Today

I was just introduced to the work of Arthur Russell this year via the cut 'This Is How We Walk On The Moon" and was sort of blown away by the songwriting. For those of you who haven't heard of him, Arthur Russell (1951-1992) was a gay cellist, composer, and disco artist, who hung around with avant garde artists like Philip Glass, Alan Ginsburg and Ali Akbar Khan, and then became totally obsessed with creating a new type music. My poor little writeup does him no honor--but check out Sasha Frere-Jones' writeup at the New Yorker to get the real picture of Arthur. In any event, for those of you who are still burning the candle, or for those of you just getting up, I've picked a lively song from his catalogue to get your blood going, "Loose Joints Tell You Today'. You can check out this cut a few other choice offerings, all good btw, which have been posted in his honor @MySpace. If you like what you here, go out and get the 'Springfield' or 'Another Thought' cds, choice compilations which memorialize his musical legacy. Enjoy.

That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
