Johnny Cash's Tennessee house burns down

Recommended Posts

The Tennessee home of late country icon Johnny Cash burned down as renovations were under way for its new owner, Barry Gibb of the Bee Gees, a local newspaper reported.

Cash and his wife, June Carter Cash, lived together in the lakeside house in Hendersonville, Tennessee, about 32km north of Nashville, from 1968 until they died within months of each other in 2003.

The Hendersonville Star News said fire officials have not determined a cause for the blaze.

The three-story, wooden house was featured in the Grammy-winning video "Hurt," in which a dying Cash surveyed his wild life.

The couple's heirs sold the house to Gibb in early 2006, and he reportedly planned to use it as a vacation home during hurricane season in his adopted hometown of Miami.

The Hendersonville Star News said the renovation was in its final stages, and it quoted a friend as saying he planned to move in during the summer.

Gibb said at the time of the purchase that he was honoured to buy the house and was determined to preserve it to honour the Cashes' memory.

HENDERSONVILLE, Tenn. — A quickly moving fire destroyed the lakeside home of the late country singer Johnny Cash on Tuesday, leaving little more than brick chimneys and the steel frame.

Cash and his wife, June Carter Cash, lived at the home from the late 1960s until their deaths in 2003, and Barry Gibb, a member of the Bee Gees.

Actually, when I first read this, I freaked a little. Can you imagine what would have been lost, had the Cash family still owned the placed, and it still held the Cash belongings? Good grief, the musical and historical things in that house that could have been lost. Wow.

That was fate saying:

"Fuck you Barry Gibb. You're not worthy of living in Johnny Cash's home."

lol, Shawn. i saw what's now known as the Tennesee 3 (sp?) a few weeks ago w/Alabama 3 opening for them (J Cash's back up band). the T3 were totally like a tribute band, AFAIC.

A3 totally blew them out of the water. they were so pissed, they refused to let Larry sing w/them as promised in the contract. but then they relented and thank fuck for that. lol, the Band even did 'hello i'm johnny cash' (from their 'outlaw' album) which was recorded a month or so before JC died.

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
