"Either you believe in the user-generated revolution or you believe ISPs rule the world."--Ferran Moreno, co-founder and CEO of Whisher

According to CNet, "A small Spanish start-up called Whisher is thumbing its nose at U.S. broadband providers as it prepares to launch a new service that lets people share their broadband connections via Wi-Fi.

Whisher, based in Barcelona and backed by Switzerland's leading phone company, Swisscom, and the venture firm Benchmark Capital, is one of several emerging start-ups that is taking broadband to the people by providing access through existing residential Wi-Fi networks."

Download the Beta for free. According to CNet, "Users aren't required to offer up their own Wi-Fi access to use other Wi-Fi networks around the world." And it works on Apple, Linux and Windows :)

Jesus, this thing works. Apparently you can share any file you have with whoever is on your network. I'm the only one on in LA right now, but I think that is about to change :) My only complaint is that I cant minimize the Whisher bar - I'm sure they will add that function, soon

Note Black Image's comment at P2PConsortium:

it sounds like a good idea for p2p the RIAA and the MPAA wouldn't be able to atach an ip adrees with one person because that ip address would be shared by any person on that wifi connection. they would loose cases right and left we all know they hate cases that have wirelss network in them. so from a p2p standpont hell ya!

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
