Aerosmith frontman's Hep C shock

stevetyler.jpgSteven Tyler, lead singer of the US rock band Aerosmith, has battled Hepatitis C for three years and at one point underwent chemotherapy that "about killed me."

In an interview set to air on the celebrity television show Access Hollywood today, Tyler, 58, said he remained "pretty quiet about this".

He had been diagnosed with the disease about three years ago when Aerosmith was on a break from touring and recording.

"I talked to my doctor ... and he said now is the time, and it's 11 months of chemotherapy. So I went on that and it about killed me," Tyler said.

He said after the treatment the disease was now "non-existent in my bloodstream".

Hepatitis C can lead to chronic liver infection and cirrhosis. About one per cent to five per cent of people with the disease eventually dies from long-term infection, according to the US Centres for Disease Control and Prevention.

Aerosmith has been among rock music's most prolific bands since first breaking big in the 1970s with hit singles such as Walk this Way and Sweet Emotion. They suffered a lull in the 1980s, but rebounded with 1987 album Permanent Vacation, which included the single Dude (Looks Like a Lady).

Tyler also is the father of actress Liv Tyler.

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
