Gene Simmons shows his conservative side

Recommended Posts

Gene Simmons of heavy metal band Kiss has some downright normal ideas about parenting.

Simmons, his partner, actress and former Playboy Playmate Shannon Tweed, and their children - 17-year-old Nick Tweed-Simmons and 14-year-old Sophie Tweed-Simmons - let cameras into their home for a new TV series, Gene Simmons Family Jewels.

"Our responsibility is to protect our kids, supply the money and the structure and the love," Simmons, 56, told the Television Critics Association's summer meeting. "Their job is to do well in school and behave, period. This notion of parents having to go negotiate with their children who just learned to wipe their butts is out of the question."

I would wager that to be a poor call. Ozzy and Gene are nothing alike. Gene is a businessman, very serious and doesn't have half the demons (no puns intended) that Ozzy does. Besides, Shannon Tweed still rocks. One panty shot of that and you'd be coming back for more.

"Our responsibility is to protect our kids, supply the money and the structure and the love,"

You would never hear Ozzy say that. He might think or believe it, but it would never come right out. While this show might be comical, I don't believe comedy will be its redeeming factor. I think this may be the most accurate portrayal of a rock star's family.

It could go south, somehow, but I think it has potential to do better than The Osbournes.

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
