Garage Band joins Apple's iLife By Cherise O'Neill

Electronic Music News -- Tuesday, January 06, 2004

San Francisco -- Garage Band is the latest addition to Apple's iLife suite of applications which include iPhoto digital photo management, iMovie digital video processing, iDVD MPEG2 mastering suite and iTunes, the number one digital audio jukebox and music store in the world which, as of December 2003, holds a seventy percent share of the digital audio download market.

With Garage Band people who have always thought about making their own music can now do just that, and as John Mayer, Steve Jobs' keynote guest at Macworld 04 pointed out, this promises to be very popular with musicians who need to put together a track to groove to while practicing and making new music.

As a direct result of Apple's acquisition of Emagic, Garage Band is complimented by a massive collection of samples and loops called Jam Pack which retails for $99, but the basic Garage Band suite should satisfy most everybody with its built-in collection of goodies.

iLife is available January 16th from Apple Stores both online and off, and will retail for $49.95.

You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
