Truest Thing - The Oxygen Ponies

Here's a new band on the NY scene which is a bit under the radar - they are currently in the studio putting together their first album. Now this song caught my attention on the band's new website at MySpace, which looks like it was just put up recently. Musically the song reminds me of Bob Dylan's Highway 61 period - but the singing is so much better. The band has also been compared to Elliot Smith and Leonard Cohen. Check it out - you might be pleasantly surprised:

Truest Thing

music and lyrics by Paul Megna

I get up six am coffee paper back to bed again

Cause the news is never good I only read the parts I think I should

THINK I SHOULD WRITE THE PERFECT SONG BUT EVERYTHING IS WANTING SINCE YOU’RE GONE

I’m up again twelve fifteen my body yearns for more caffeine

Oh but the coffee’s burned to the pot thought I turned it off but I forgot

Yeah I Forgot Most Everything

That I Had Promised You That I Would Bring

To Our Lives To Our Bed

And I Still Hear Your Static In My Head

Another day gives way to night what starts so great just winds up with a fight

Cause we are both misunderstood we never say the things I think we should

THINK WE SHOULD RIGHT ALL OUR WRONGS BUT WE COULD NEVER FIT THEM IN A SONG

It’s been a month maybe a year the things I thought I want disappear

But my love for you will not thought I turned it off but I forgot

Yeah I Forgot Most Everything

That I Had Promised You That I Would Bring

To Our Lives To Our Bed

And That's The Truest Thing I Ever Said

PM - acoustic guitar, b. vocal, fx, organ, piano, vocal

Konrad Meissner - drums

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
